JOB SUMMARY We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer responsible for implementing and maintaining backup and recovery solutions to protect critical data and systems. This role requires a deep understanding of backup technologies, disaster recovery strategies, and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with successful implementation and management of backup and storage solutions in complex large environments. This role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to standardize best practices and enhance team capabilities. This position requires the incumbent to reside in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area or be willing to relocate. This position does not provide H1B Visa sponsorship. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required
- Education
Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in computer science, math, information systems or other related field. An equivalent combination of education and/or directly related experience may be substituted in lieu of the stated requirements.
- Experience
2 years experience in field directly related to operating systems and systems administration, including experience working with and maintaining multiple server hosts, in a combined environment. Experience with project management phases and methodologies, as it relates to assigned projects and tasks.
- Licenses and Certifications
Certification in at least one relevant operating system or associated technology.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
- Backup Solution Implementation Implement Backup strategies for critical systems and data, ensuring compliance with business requirements and industry best practices.
- Deploy and configure backup software and hardware, including Rubrik and IBM Spectrum Protect.
- Develop and maintain backup schedules, policies, and procedures.
- Backup and Recovery Operations Monitor backup jobs and resolve any issues promptly.
- Perform backup testing and validation to ensure data integrity and recoverability.
- Participate in disaster recovery exercises, working closely with Disaster Recovery analysts.
- Implement and maintain data retention and deletion policies.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
- Works with current, commercial grade server hardware, both for physical and virtual hosted environments.
- Works to identify and propose innovative and creative solutions that enhance or increase the efficiency of the services provided by Information Resources to the campus community.
- Perform network troubleshooting at the server host level, using associated tools, i.e. network traces.
- Works with server hosts running in a combined directory services environment, and handles associated share/folder/file configurations and rights assignments.
- Works with operating system security components, both with identifying potential vulnerabilities, and remediating said vulnerabilities where applicable.
- Analyzes and remediates problems involving server hardware, operating systems, database systems, applications, or other related technologies associated with the server host system. This includes troubleshooting hardware and software issues using proficiencies with the proper tools and utilities.
- Works with system users and engineers to make recommendations, receive feedback, and test additions and/or enhancements to the server host environment so that the systems and any associated/hosted applications or virtual environments are updated, tested, developed, and implemented as required.
- Proposes policies for server hardware, operating system and associated storage layout and design; works in tandem with scientific and technical community using knowledge of future trends to produce a combined systems solution that is based on user and system engineer needs.
- Installs server hardware, operating systems and associated application upgrades, in a manner that maintains proper system integrity.
- Responsible for consulting with ends users, application analysts and vendors, as a component of leading assigned project efforts; this includes the initial design and development phases, hardware/software specifications and pricing, and the follow on system design, build, configuration testing, go live and project closure tasks.
- Responsible for developing documentation relative to assigned projects and tasks including documentation related to system testing, disaster recovery and routine system administration processes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
