Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Program Coordinator (Graduate Student Life) for The Office of Graduate Student Life ( OGSL), Division of Student Affairs. The position works under the supervision and leadership of the Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Life.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Supports and enhances the quality of life for the overall student experience of graduate and professional students on the Rutgers New Brunswick campus by serving their diverse needs, fostering community and a sense of belonging, connecting and assisting graduate students in navigating support services and resources and serving as a bridge builder and connector for graduate schools, campus partners, staff and students.
  • Plans and implements programs and initiatives that foster connection and fellowship and build communities outside of students' disciplines, classrooms, and labs.
  • Handles student government advising, campus wide community building programs, and international graduate student support initiatives.
  • Oversees the day-to-day utilization of the Graduate Student Lounge to create a welcoming environment.
  • Supports graduate and academic program orientations and resource fairs
  • Works in tandem with the Assistant Dean to support the advisement of the GSA, graduate student government.
  • Provides advisement with a focus on training, leadership development and transition processes for elected student leaders and assists with student government managed services, activities and programs that are held to the highest ethical and organizational standards.
  • Provides programmatic efforts for welcome programming for the graduate student population, Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, graduate student lounge programming and other thematic programs to provide opportunities for graduate students to interact and build community.
  • Focuses on initiatives to support the transition of our graduate international student population.
  • Implements, reviews, and disseminates evaluation tools to understand the graduate student experience as it relates to programs, initiatives, and operations of Graduate Student Life.
  • Oversees the communications and marketing efforts of the Office of Graduate Student Life including weekly newsletter, messaging, social media calendar and website updates.
  • Supervises the Graduate Student Intern, office staff and social media intern.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's degree that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the complex needs of a diverse graduate student population especially doctoral/PhD students, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Licenses
  • A valid driver's license would be required for this position; Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong computer literacy skills including proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills and ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Highly motivated, flexible and graduate-student centered individual with proven skills in building and maintaining relationships with campus partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) - Five (5) years of relevant experience in a higher education setting supporting and/or advising graduate students.
  • Doctoral degree or pursuit of a doctoral degree.
  • Experience using Qualtrics and MailChimp.
  • Experience running focus groups or student feedback/dialogue sessions.
  • Working in a large university system.
  • Research or assessment experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience or knowledge of community building practices in a decentralized graduate education structure.

  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
Special Conditions

  • May be required to travel to other campus locations.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
