Job Summary

Young stellar objects (YSOs) are important specimens in studies of the physical processes that occur during stellar birth, circumstellar disk evolution, and planet formation. Over the past several decades, both targeted observations that have focused on YSOs and star forming regions, as well as large ground- and space-based surveys with more general science goals, have increased the amount and types of available data on YSOs by orders of magnitude. The successful job candidate will perform various tasks related to populating a relational database that allows users to access, search, and better exploit YSO data for new science investigations.

Essential Job Duties

The successful candidate will work with an SQL database running on POSTgreSQL thatis created and managed by python scriptsand the Django framework, connecting that database to a front end user interface written in html, javascript, css. They will learn, operate within, and improve the database population workflow. This entails processing files that have been downloaded from the astronomical literature and source catalogs and reformatting them in a manner suitable for upload into the YSOC database. They can also participate in backend code development, with an opportunity to engage in frontend development.
