The Opportunity:

As an IP Paralegal at Roche, you will play a vital role in building our global intellectual property portfolio in support of delivering ground-breaking diagnostic tests, instruments, and digital solutions for the benefit of patients around the world.

You will be an essential part of a global IP Specialist team managing patent prosecution, maintaining accurate docketing systems, and ensuring the smooth operation of strategic IP initiatives. By working closely with inventors, in-house patent attorneys and agents, and external partners, you will contribute directly to protecting innovative technologies and advancing Roche's long-term innovation strategy. Your meticulous attention to detail, organizational skills, and expertise in USPTO procedures will serve as an indispensable asset to our patent group and the company's overall success.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare and file documents relating to the prosecution of patent applications in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

  • Create, update, and maintain electronic patent docket records for in-house attorneys/agents and prepare reports.

  • Correspond with affiliates relating to patent prosecution, opinion work, client counseling, and litigation matters handled by in-house attorneys.

  • Create, organize, and maintain files in connection with patent prosecution, infringement clearance, and litigation.n

  • Work within a group email inbox environment to review and act on incoming correspondence.

  • Communicate with outside counsel and document information within the docketing system.m

  • Review incoming workflows from the global docketing group, and audit docketing system for accuracy.

  • Assist with management of related art references from incoming office actions, docket Information Disclosure actions, and file Information Disclosure Statements

  • Obtain signatures from inventors and attorneys on assignments and declarations.

  • Support general administrative activities for Group Patents, including event coordination and meeting planning.

  • All other tasks as assigned

Who you are:

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • You have a minimum of two years of U.S. patent prosecution experience working in an in-house legal environment or law firm in a legal assistant role or similar.

  • Respectful, reliable, and dependable team player; ability to work productively with personnel at all levels and with minimal supervision

  • Knowledge of Anaqua, Lucidchart, and Docusign is a plus.

Additional required skills:

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, including Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat

  • Familiarity with basic USPTO procedures, rules, and requirements: knowledge of basic U.S. and PCT patent rules and procedures

  • Manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment, and work well under pressure

  • Meet deadlines, organize and prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Work independently and take initiative to move projects to completion

Relocation benefits are not available for this position.

The expected salary range for this position, based on the primary location of Arizona, is between $58,000 and $107,900. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below. Benefits
