These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations. |
Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Project Manager for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Under the guidance and direction of the Assistant Director of Design in the Office of Architecture and Design, this licensed professional is responsible for effectively managing planning and design projects of all sizes and types, including grant applications and feasibility studies. This position has statewide responsibilities, addressing a wide variety of academic, administrative, research, healthcare, and infrastructure spaces. The Project Manager will engage and manage both internal resources and external consultants to undertake projects.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Coordinates and manages the efforts of University staff and/or external architects and engineers for the successful completion of grant applications, feasibility studies, and vision documents.
- Coordinates and manages the efforts of University staff and/or external architects and engineers for planning and design projects of all types and sizes, including capital projects (over $5 million) and non-capital projects (below $5 million). Interacts with other departments within the Division of Institutional Planning and Operations and support service departments of the University as required to successfully complete projects. Applies signature and NJ Registered Architect or Professional Engineer seal to design and construction documents when required.
- Working with staff from the Office of Architecture and Design (within Planning, Development, and Design), maintains project lists and assignments, participates in project coordination meetings, develops scopes of work reflective of end-user needs, and assists with the procurement and contracting process for architects and engineers.
- Manages time and plans efforts as required to successfully execute multiple projects simultaneously, with little to no administrative support from other staff.
- Performs other duties as required by departmental and division needs, as assigned by the Assistant Director of Design, Assistant Vice President of Architecture and Design, and/or the Vice President of Planning, Development, and Design.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree or higher in architecture from a college or university having an architecture curriculum accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board or a Bachelor's degree in engineering from a college or university having an TAC/ABET accredited engineering technology program.
- A minimum of five (5) years post-licensure in the field of architecture or engineering, with demonstration of knowledge of design and construction principles.

Certifications/Licenses |
- Valid driver's license required.
- Requires current registration or licensure as a Registered Architect or Professional Engineer in the United States; upon hire the employee will have a six-month period of time to obtain a New Jersey Architect's license via the New Jersey's Licensure by Credentials process or a New Jersey Professional Engineer license.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Strong communications skills are required, as is the ability to work with a wide range of technical, professional, and academic personnel.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Current licensure as a New Jersey Registered Architect or New Jersey Registered Professional Engineer is preferred.
- Experience working with facilities associated with higher education is preferred.
- Experience working on facilities for healthcare, laboratory and scientific research is preferred.
- Experience working with the principles of sustainable design and environmental analysis.

Equipment Utilized |
- Proficiency in standard office equipment and the Microsoft Office platform is required.
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Pro is also required.
- Working knowledge of the principles of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software is required.
CAD proficiency is preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Many duties will be undertaken in a standard office environment. Some duties will require travel among campuses and to off-site locations, and site tours at active construction sites will occur.
