Job Description

Job Profile: Ceramic Lab Technician - Level 1

Position Summary:

Use various handheld and bench mounted measuring devices to determine product quality. Measure, assess, and record data for a variety of processes and material production methods in a Ceramics lab.

Essential Functions:

  • Cut and collect test coupons from thermal processes
  • Conduct dimensional checks on kiln process control keys and test bars for multiple facilities
  • Perform destructive tests for kiln process control and material certifications for multiple material mixes and for PCC foundries
  • Operate x-ray diffraction (XRD), dilatometry, MOR (modulus of rupture), and SAG equipment
  • Enter test data into spreadsheets and/or databases
  • Conduct calibration on process control equipment such as hydrometers and thermometers
  • Must follow and adhere to all safety procedures
  • Maintain department standards for housekeeping/6S
  • Other duties as assigned by supervision

Required Skills:

  • Must be able to read, write, and do basic mathematical problems
  • Must be detail oriented and well organized
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Must be self-directed to accomplish goals with minimal supervision
  • Must have good interpersonal skills for dealing with customers and internal employees
  • Must be computer literate, familiarity with Excel a plus

Experience & Education

  • High school education is preferred
  • Prior lab experience is preferred
