Responsible for participating in, planning, scheduling and/or supervising research projects and the interpretation of the results for publication. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants. About the Department and/or College The Center for Biotechnology & Genomics at Texas Tech University promotes and facilitates faculty and student research in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and molecular genetics. The Center provides technical support for research and a nucleus for interdisciplinary research and training initiatives at Texas Tech University and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Major/Essential Functions Next-Gen sequencing library preparation for RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, whole-genome, whole-exome, metagenome, microbiome, etc. Routine maintenance and operation of equipment. Troubleshoot library preparation and sequencing runs in a fast-paced working environment. Write standard operating procedures, schedule work, analyze data, maintain accurate records, write reports, and develop new assays. Prepare and maintain stocks of necessary reagents, solutions, and supplies. Present results at internal and/or external meetings. Respond to inquiries and communicate regularly with collaborators and customers. Report on the status of projects and observations to the core manager. Design and execute assays, protocols, and experiments; modify protocols as needed. Assist in writing scientific publications and grant proposals. Review literature to stay current with related technology. Assist in the training of new laboratory personnel, students, and collaborators. Required Qualifications Master's degree or specialized academic training beyond the Bachelor's level in a particular field of science or engineering equivalent to a Master's degree. One year research experience. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Preferred Qualifications Educational preparation in Biology, Chemistry and/or in a related field. Sound knowledge in statistics, informatics, and communication. Excellent computer skills and basic knowledge of computer programing languages. Basic knowledge of bioinformatics and/or willingness to learn related skills.
