Temple University's Athletics Department is searching for an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Head Coach, the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach assists in developing a competitive Division I Men's Basketball program. The primary role of the Assistant Coach is to teach student-athletes the game of basketball. The Assistant Coach will work on the fundamentals of the sport, instructing during scheduled practices and meetings from Monday to Friday, and preparing for competitions.
The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach supports the Head Coach by providing leadership and integrity to the program established by the Head Coach, which includes, but is not limited to: creating, planning, organizing, motivating, communicating, and managing aspects related to recruiting, practices, competitions, student-athletes, and associated booster clubs. The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach is expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the University, the Department, and the sport, both on and off the field of competition. The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach is also expected to be knowledgeable about and comply with NCAA regulations governing their sport, as well as NCAA and conference policies regarding recruiting, eligibility, ethical standards, playing seasons, and extra benefits. Evidence of the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach's understanding of these rules and policies will be demonstrated by meeting the Departmental expectation of successfully completing the annually administered NCAA Coaches Exam. Additionally, the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach performs other duties as assigned.

Evidence of the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach's understanding of these rules and policies will be reflected in the Departmental expectation for them to successfully complete the annually administered NCAA Coaches Exam. The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach also performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and at least two years of previous Basketball experience as a collegiate coach and/or collegiate student-athlete. Experience administering Division I NCAA rules. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred:



  • NCAA Division I experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and allocating a budget.
  • Demonstrated experience fundraising towards the achievement of program goals.


Required Skills & Abilities:



  • The execution of team practices, consistent with the outline of the Head Men's Basketball Coach.
  • Assist the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
  • Facilitating and teaching during training sessions and individual workouts.
  • Reviewing game film during the season.
  • Attendance and participation at Departmental and Compliance Meetings as scheduled.
  • Coordination of team travel logistics and itinerary with Departmental personnel as necessary, as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Represents the University in compliance with NCAA policy in the recruitment of student-athletes, as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Represents the University in compliance with NCAA policy and consistent Departmental resources in the recommendation of athletic scholarships to prospective student-athletes through the Head Coach.
  • Development and allocation of budget in conjunction with the Head Coach.
  • Assist with scheduling of opponents.
  • Facility and equipment maintenance in collaboration with the appropriate equipment manager.
  • Make recommendations of purchases of athletic equipment.
  • Coordinates with Athletic Training for maintenance and rehabilitation of student athletes.
  • Supports Strength and Conditioning training in collaboration with assigned strength coach.
  • Assist with the recruitment of students for the program.
  • Assist with fundraising towards the achievement of program goals.
  • Other work related responsibilities assigned by the Head Coach consistent with the Mission of the Department
