Description

The Medical Informatics Support Associate will employ knowledge, skill and technical savvy to provide exceptional support to the Health Information Management team in the maintenance, monitoring, analytics and use of the Electronic Health Record system at SIU.


Examples of Duties

Daily Work Routines

  1. Participate in the reduction of Paper Charts and PDF Documents
    1. Pull paper charts to review, scan, and shred based on our retention schedule and destruction certificates.
    2. Document all patients charts in the repository
  2. Perform urgent ROI requests for legal or compliance offices. Transfer routine ROI requests for patient information to the copy service vendor appropriately.
  3. Identifies scanned standard and non-standard forms and determines action required. Recognizes problems with scanned forms and takes steps to ensure forms can be indexed and follows up with appropriate action.
  4. Verifies patient identity on each document matches with patient identity assigned during scanning process using patient name, date of birth and medical record number.

  6. Index documents from the Scanning batch basket into patient charts
  7. Working reports to help with EHR document clean up and to reduce the account of inaccurate information being in patient charts.
  8. Monitor the SIU Medical Records tasklist daily and remove incorrect information from the patient's chart.
  9. Receive and process all TouchWorks 'file in error' email requests. Determine the acceptability of the information provided. This may include reviewing hospital records and/or clinical records of the patient(s) involved in and/or communicating with the author(s) of the document(s) involved. Complete steps in TouchWorks to remove the 'file in error' document(s).
  10. Look up microfilmed/imaged patient records using the Records Management System. View patient digital files using the Digitized Medical Records System. Respond appropriately to e-mail messages from supervisors and administrators
  11. Work analytic reports assigned to optimization the electronic medical record system. This can include report requests, validation of reports, EMR system clean-up and trending errors.
  12. Training assistant for TouchWorks Training Classes, which includes HIM training.

Education

  1. Maintain thorough knowledge of the medical record content and HIM work flow processes.
  2. Maintains familiarity with new industry-related technologies, and recommends to management products which could improve our reporting practices.
  3. Answer routine questions regarding department operations, policies, and procedures.
  4. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Any one or any combination totaling one (1) year (12 months) from the following categories:
    1. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
    2. 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
    3. Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
    4. 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
    5. Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
    1. Work experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
3. 2 years Healthcare Clerical, IT or Clinical experience
