Job Summary

The Level 1 CCL Operating Room Assistant is considered a novice to the Cardiac Cath Lab/Sterile Procedural area environment and is developing competencies and skills in many of the duties listed in this position description. The Level 1 Operating Room Assistant is responsible for providing general support and assistance in the clinical and non-clinical areas of Invasive Cardiology (CCL & EP) . The incumbent works alongside other support staff and fully participates with the entire ORA Team and participates in activities that clean, organize, and prepare all areas of the CCL suites, EP Lab Suites as well as OR45. In addition, but not limited to, the incumbent facilitates transport of supply items, instruments, and equipment. The incumbent in this role transports patients, transports the deceased, and transports specimens and blood products. Under the direct supervision of a CVT Tech Supervisor, the incumbent may assist with a variety of patient care activities. The position may also be instructed to perform duties by the ANII as well as the department manager. This position is also responsible for maintaining and organizing supply items, instruments, and equipment; properly handling clean and infectious waste; distribute sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment; clean and test TEE probes for proficiency; document properly in various logs and provide other general duties pertinent to the department's needs.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR.
  • Experience transporting patients in an inpatient setting.
  • Previous experience with cleaning sterile environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal communication and relationships.
  • Ability to set priorities, organize work independently.
  • Ability to handle or cope under stressful situations.
  • Ability to prioritize own duties.
  • Knowledge of conducting Quality Assurance monitors pertinent to assigned areas.
  • Knowledge of handling delicate equipment (Doppler, Scanner, portable O2 Saturation Monitor, CPAP Monitors).
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Willingness and ability to work in multiple invasive cardiology areas as assigned.
  • Knowledgeable of the total Operating Room environment including AORN professional standards, practices, and guidelines of the Peri operative area, including but not limited to: a. Knowledge of aseptic technique. b.Knowledge of proper surgical attire. c. Knowledge, skill, and ability to transport surgical patients. d. Knowledge, skill, and ability to implement surgical case containment protocols & OR sanitation techniques. e. Knowledge, skill, and ability to care for surgical instruments and equipment Level I Competencies (novice/developing competencies):
  • Demonstrated knowledge of correct patient identifiers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe patient transportation using gurney, bed, wheelchair.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of traffic patterns in the surgical suite
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Universal Precautions/Standard Preca
  • Demonstrated knowledge of identifying routinely used surgical equipment and supplies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of surgical case containment protocols
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cleaning/sanitation techniques in a sterile environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of handling and removing bio-hazardous waste from a procedural area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the proper placement of routine equipment in CCL/OR45 & EP suites and storage areas .
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cleaning x-ray "lead" aprons.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper temperature range of the blanket warming cabinet and log documentation.

  • Proficient in using standard business software including email and common word processing applications.

The Cardiac Catheterization Labs & Hybrid OR are specialized invasive procedure rooms where diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral-vascular procedures are performed under fluoroscopy on patients from neonate through geriatrics.
