Summary/Primary Objective of Position: Under the direction of the Coordinator of Payroll, assists the Coordinator of Payroll to deliver accurate pay, tax and benefit withholdings for employees on a bi-weekly basis consistent with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, bargaining contracts, and district policy, and perform related work as required within the job description. Job Responsibilities: Assists the Coordinator of Payroll in the following duties and performs these duties in the absence of the Coordinator of Payroll:
- Assists in the daily operations of the District's payroll system, including biweekly payroll and employee time-off tracking.
- Assists in analyzing, reconciling and auditing complex payroll-related data, accounts and reports.
- Assists in the timely and accurate submission of payroll related reports and remission of payroll related liabilities to state and federal agencies and other entities to whom such reports and payments are due.
- Assists in maintaining the District's retirement plan records (i.e., 403b, 457, and Post-Employment VEBA) for all employees, including calculating, reconciling, and educating employees
- Assist in interpreting and analyzing district policy, collective bargaining contracts and government regulations affecting payroll and benefit procedures.
- Assists in providing accurate and timely support for all negotiation processes or District decision processes that require payroll data.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level at the direction of the Coordinator of Payroll.
Qualifications:
- Associate Degree with major coursework in Accounting, Human Resources or closely related field. Four year degree preferred.
- Evidence of previous payroll experience with automated, complex payroll system. Minimum three years preferred.
- School district accounting experience, experience with Skyward preferred.
- Evidence of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel,and Google applications.
- Evidence of excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Evidence of a high level of ability to analyze and interpret payroll manuals, government reports and collective bargaining contracts.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, along with a thorough understanding of data privacy requirements of a public human resources function.
- Evidence of ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
Assignment Details: The Assistant Coordinator of Payroll is a full-time, year-round, exempt position. This position will be placed on an individual letter of assignment and is not within a collective bargaining unit. Starting salary is $70,000 depending on experience and our benefits are regionally competitive.
