Position Summary:

The senior marketing specialist drives the promotion and visibility of the Physical Review journals through strategic, cross-channel marketing and event execution. The position supports the broader goals of APS Publishing by aligning marketing initiatives with editorial priorities, publishing milestones, and organizational objectives. Through close collaboration with editorial, design, and external partners, this role ensures the consistent delivery of impactful campaigns, engaging content, and seamless event presence that elevate the reputation and reach of the Physical Review journals across the global scientific community, apply today!

Responsibilities:



  • Lead planning and execution of journal promotion strategies at major conferences and meetings; develop and maintain an annual marketing calendar aligned with editorial goals and key publishing milestones.
  • Oversee all exhibit logistics, including budgeting, registration, contract negotiation, booth furnishings, and on-site coordination in partnership with editorial and marketing staff.
  • Manage promotional inventory from procurement to distribution, ensuring alignment with brand identity and effective utilization across campaigns and events.
  • Create and edit high-impact marketing content, including advertisements, digital and print collateral, and trade show materials; collaborate with editorial, design, and external vendors to maintain quality and branding consistency.
  • Collaborate with graphic designers and vendors to produce visually compelling materials that comply with APS brand guidelines and effectively support campaign goals.
  • Develop targeted post-event messaging, including email content and follow-up strategies tailored to event attendees and key audience segments.
  • Track and report campaign performance, compiling analytics across email, social media, and event engagement to inform future strategy and optimize ROI.
  • Project manage the journal catalog lifecycle, including content coordination, cross-functional review, production oversight, and timely distribution.
  • Coordinate logistics for stakeholder events, including invitation management, RSVP tracking, vendor liaison, and on-site support.
  • Ensure web content accuracy for librarian and journal promotional pages through routine audits and updates, in collaboration with the digital and editorial teams.
  • Facilitate virtual promotional events, managing timelines, platform setup, content planning, and attendee communications.
  • Contribute to cross-departmental initiatives, bringing marketing insights to editorial, operations, and public outreach collaborations.



Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field (directly relevant work experience in lieu of degree accepted)




Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 5 years, marketing, and customer service experience required.
  • Experience working with associations or nonprofits.
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills required.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Advanced working knowledge of project management principles and using tools (Asana preferred) to track work and report outcomes.
  • Familiarity with email marketing, including building, creating, and sending emails; and reviewing performance and analytics.
  • Specialized knowledge of production of marketing materials.
  • Advanced working knowledge of social media, including social media management software.
  • Demonstrated experience with marketing reporting including the use of Google Analytics and social media metrics.
  • Strong organization, documentation, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to quickly changing schedules.
  • Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently.
  • Preferred: Interest in science.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Asana work management platform
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Adobe Suite and Google Business Applications.


Travel:The position requires travel up to 25% to relevant events and conferences, client sites, representation at key meetings and events, and to conduct site and vendor assessments, and to attend meetings and events as part of its core responsibilities. Including travel to APS offices in Long Island, NY; Washington DC; and College Park, MD, as well as other off-site locations for periodic meetings and training sessions. Additional travel may be required as assigned by the supervisor.

Salary:

The salary range for this position takes into account various factors influencing compensation decisions, such as skill sets, experience, training, and other business and organizational requirements. The salary listed within the specified ranges considers relevant experience. Our compensation philosophy at APS aims to maintain salaries at the midpoint of the market. As a result, we typically hire within the target starting range. Exceptional, rare cases may merit reviews above target starting range for specialized or niche skills aligned with strategic operational goals.

Hiring Range:$58,926/year - $80,287/year (USD)

Target Starting Range:$58,926/year - $65,555/year (USD)

Work Environment:

As noted above, APS offers a "Remote First" workplace. Although our offices are located on Long Island, NY, College Park, MD and Washington DC, you can work from other places in the United States. We are flexible about work hours, but expect responsiveness during the core of the workday, Eastern Time.
