Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management (40%)
Develop and recommend campus policies and procedures that promote inclusion and universal design in programs and facilities; develop and recommend policies and procedures that address accessibility in programs and facilities via accommodations; Anticipate changes that may create or remove barriers, and advise the campus community as appropriate; Chair the Chancellor's Committee on the ADA (CADA), soliciting requests for purchases that enhance accessibility on campus; Facilitate access via accommodations, including those related to communication, the physical environment, print materials, and technology; provide training and technical assistance to faculty, staff, administrators, and students; Oversee production of auxiliary aids and services, including materials in alternate formats, interpreters, transcribers, lab assistants, and adaptive technology; Assist supervisor in achieving goals of the division through regular attendance of Student Affairs planning meetings and by responding to division- and section-level initiatives; Hire, train, and supervise (or facilitate supervision of) all full-time staff, giving regular feedback including annual performance reviews; Facilitate professional development opportunities for staff and coordinate their participation on campus committees; Provide and/or facilitate supervision of part-time staff and interns; Conduct regular staff meetings to review strategic plans, assignments, and timelines and to inform staff of departmental and university initiatives; Approve vacation and continuing education requests for staff consistent with individual and departmental goals, ensuring business continuity; Review and create standard operating procedures and policies for department; Lead the strategic planning process for the office and ensure adherence to goals, objectives, and completion dates; Interpret institutional and external policies related to the department as well as to student rights and responsibilities as defined by the Student Handbook; Review national trends that could lead to improved services to clients; Participate in special projects, various committees, and special task forces undertaken within the Division of Student Affairs and UA Little Rock; Network with point-of-service community resources that serve as referrals for individuals, the campus community, and other external stakeholders as needed; Collaborate with relevant campus stakeholders to ensure student needs are met promptly; Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships on campus and in the community; Maintain awareness of legislative issues that impact the department; Write comprehensive annual plans and submit them on time; Represent UA Little Rock locally and nationally by providing technical assistance and networking with other institutions and agencies; Field and resolve complaints from students and others in the campus community.
- Stewardship of Resources (15%)
Oversee departmental budgets, the maintenance of spreadsheets reflecting all budget transactions, reconciliation with Workday, and all purchases and other expenditures, in collaboration with departmental budget staff and the Wellness and Inclusion Business Manager; Project future needs and submit budget requests to supervisor; Write proposals and grants to help increase departmental resources.
- Student responsibilities (45%)
Meet and collaborate with students to determine appropriate accommodations; Maintain student records by documenting communications with and regarding students, regarding the recommended course of action or accommodations, and collecting documentation provided by the student; Facilitate meetings with students and faculty to find solutions to remove barriers or put accommodations in place.
