City Experiences is seeking a Port Engineer for our Boston Harbor City Cruises operation in Boston, MA.

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences' RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

The Port Engineers position is responsible for successful vessel maintenance and repair for all vessels. The Port Engineer will manage the engineering and maintenance program to ensure the highest level of readiness and safety of the fleet and service to our guests. A successful Port Engineer will maintain positive working relationships with other departments, vendors, and shipyards. Additionally, the Port Engineer will perform the duties as stated in this description and provide assistances as assigned by the Chief Port Engineer and coordinating all maintenance with the Director of Marine Operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Manages Engineering and Maintenance teams to successfully accomplish assigned duties.
  • Assists the Director of Marine Operations with the preparation of detailed plans of significant R&M and capital projects for all vessels in the fleet. Plans should include timelines, man-hours, and contingencies. Plans must be revised frequently during the execution period.
  • Ensures all Preventative Maintenance tasks are completed on schedule in Wheelhouse Technologies Maintenance Management System.
  • Participate in preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and urgent repairs as required to ensure fleet readiness. Must have hands on repair skills and experience with diesel engines, engine drive trains, HVAC systems, plumbing, hydraulics, electrical generation, and vessel marine mechanical systems.
  • Identifies maintenance issues and ensures they are documented within the Maintenance Management Systems and promptly addressed.
  • Ensures adherence to Coast Guard rules and regulations, and other federal and local rules and regulations.
  • Maintains close liaison between the region extended Engineering Team and other departments.
  • Work with Director of Marine Operations, the extended engineering team and senior management to help determine the need for, identify, and oversee subcontractors that may be hired for major repairs or upgrades to the vessel.


Engineering and Maintenance Team Management:



  • Recruits new engineers and maintenance team members when necessary to fill vacant positions.
  • Participates in hiring of engineering and maintenance staff when applicable.
  • Recommends appropriate compensation packages within company guidelines.
  • Recommends the promotion of Engineering and Maintenance Department team members when applicable.
  • Develops positive working relationships with other department heads and peers.
  • Maintain and exercise the Bunkering and Fuel Spill Response Plan.
  • Train and develop staff as provided.


Administration:



  • Establishes department priorities and executes against them based on long-term vision.
  • Works with Director of Operations and senior management to develop all Marine budgets according to company guidelines.
  • Monitors and controls all costs associated with the operation of the Maintenance and Engineering Department in accordance with budget.
  • Work with Director of Operations to develop Drydock packages for all vessels.
  • Finds and recommends cost savings that are consistent with company objectives.
  • Provides a monthly forecast to the Director of Operations.
  • Monitors/oversees scheduling Maintenance and Engineering shipmate work periods to achieve maximum payroll efficiency.
  • Completes all shift records: checklist, logbook, payroll, and documentation of safety training of personnel assigned to your department.


Additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:



  • Must possess valid TWIC.
  • First Aid/CPR Certified.
  • Minimum of 10 years of marine or closely related facility experience. Must include 5 years as a licensed Chief Engineer or First Assistant Chief Engineer and 5 years' experience managing crew.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred.
  • Detailed working knowledge of all ship's systems and their proper maintenance: gangways, diesel, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, water (potable, raw, black, and gray), fire suppression.
  • Mathematical skills necessary to interpret reports and budgets.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Analyze and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities/tasks.
  • Work with Microsoft applications.
  • This is a shoreside position and requires candidates to live with in a commutable distance.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule - may be required to work some weekends, early mornings, or evenings and major holidays as needed.
