Job Family Summary

The Corporate Strategy group is focused on driving the design, planning, execution and integration of Allstate's business strategies by working collaboratively with Allstate leaders. The group supports the Operating Committee on key strategy initiatives, partnering with business and function stakeholders to advance enterprise strategies, monitoring and responding to market and competitive trends and helping to ensure enterprise goals and objectives are aligned and being executed effectively.

Job Summary

The VP Corporate Strategy role will work to shape the Allstate strategic agenda and identify critical questions to address. This role will address developing and implementing key strategies and business models within the organization, designing and implementing initiatives that account for alternatives and dependencies so that opportunities, short- and long-term financial implications, risks and opportunities are well understood. They will work across functions and businesses to support stakeholder engagement, identify issues and assess financial and organizational impact. They will assist in making recommendations and drive organizational alignment and decision making. The VP Corporate Strategy Leader will work closely with the Strategy SVP and business leaders to offer advice and bring the corporate perspective across the company. Responsibilities will also include supporting broader enterprise strategy initiatives as needed and development of the Corporate Strategy team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead creation of 3-5-year corporate strategic plan and development of strategic agenda for C-level strategy committee, including business portfolio analysis, new opportunity assessments and recommendations, long range trend assessment, 3-5-year goal setting and growth priorities, market and competitor analysis, and innovation portfolio
  • Participate in ongoing dialogues with business leaders to ensure objectives are met, efforts are coordinated and strategies are reflected consistently across the enterprise
  • Develop and lead strategic implementation efforts for various internal stakeholder on a variety of projects and initiatives with a focus on oversight, analytical, process and content support
  • Participate in the creation of presentations enabling effective communication of strategies and related implementation plans
  • Ensure that ongoing business intelligence, competitive tracking and best practice efforts are accounted for in implementation initiatives
  • Develop strategic perspectives and make recommendations on new market opportunities including sizing and assessing markets, identifying the risk / benefits of opportunities, and implications for Allstate
Key Responsibilities Cont'd
  • Independently manage central portions of projects, identifying key issues and selecting appropriate analyses to solve problems
  • Communicate strategies and implementation plans to key stakeholders
  • Develop team members through mentoring, training and development and managing succession through internal and external recruiting
  • Inspire trust and confidence in all stakeholders through strategic and diplomatic handling of relationships. Proactively manages strategic partner expectations
  • Set tone and lead others in establishing appropriate culture of communication. Adeptly alter messaging as appropriate for the audience. Provide thought leadership and communication to senior leaders
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience

The successful candidate should have 9+ years of strategy consulting or strategic implementation experience involving senior level stakeholder management gained through experience with a strategy consultancy or corporation. Additionally:

  • Strategic and decision making framework capabilities including hypothesis, design, complex issue identification, problem solving approaches ability and lead strategy implementation projects.
  • Advanced quantitative and analytical skills
  • Advanced ability to synthesize data and insights into meaningful conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to structure documents to effectively communicate with managements and drive alignment
  • Advanced ability to drive alignment across multiple senior level stakeholders
  • Experience leading and managing cross-functional teams
  • Advanced ability to manage multiple priorities given aggressive timelines; comfortable performing in a fast paced, dynamic and ambiguous business environment.
  • Bachelor's degree is required for this position. Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or advanced degree is desired but not required.
