Job Summary

Using extensive experience and subject matter expertise, the Finance Analyst 5 independently leads complex financial planning, modeling, and analysis efforts that support UCSF IT's strategic and operational goals. This position collaborates with leadership to develop long-range budgets, evaluate fiscal performance, and identify financial risks and opportunities. The role is responsible for synthesizing complex data, developing comprehensive financial reports and forecasts, advising on fiscal strategy, and ensuring resource alignment with organizational priorities. The incumbent does not supervise staff but provides expert-level consultation and leadership on financial initiatives with organization-wide impact.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $140,500 - $231,500 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

UCSF IT is responsible for managing and supporting the technology infrastructure and services that enable the university's health, research and education missions. Within UCSF IT, the IT Finance team is responsible for managing the financial resources of UCSF IT, which has grown to approximately 900 FTE and $300M in annual spend. The IT Finance team partners with IT leaders, central Finance and other departments to ensure UCSF's financial goals are met by providing financial reporting, planning and analysis services.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field, or equivalent experience/training.
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in financial planning, analysis, and reporting in a complex organization.
  • Expert knowledge of financial transactions, planning processes, and enterprise-level financial systems.
  • Proven ability using advanced spreadsheet and database tools for financial analysis, modeling, reporting, and forecasting.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate complex data and make strategic financial recommendations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to present complex financial information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, service orientation, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-volume tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in business administration, public policy, or related field.
  • Intermediate knowledge of internal control practices and financial compliance requirements in a public or academic institution.
  • Familiarity with human resources policies and procedures that impact financial planning and operations.
