About the unit The Helen DeVos Children's Hospital PICU/PCICU was recently awarded the Beacon Award at the highest level of Gold. We are the only PICU to receive this recognition in Michigan. There are only 33 PICU's in the nation that have received Beacon status and only 12 of them Gold status. The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) created the Beacon Award for Excellence to recognize individual units that distinguish themselves by improving every facet of patient care. Scope of Work The role of the Family Ambassador is to provide "Extraordinary Care" to parents and families of patients in the Pediatric Critical Care and Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Units through friendly, caring, courteous, and professional service. A key responsibility of the role is to assist families with the hospital experience through peer support, personal comfort, learning tools, and navigating the hospital environment. Maintains confidential records, supplies and equipment as it pertains to the concierges role. Acts as a team member collaborating with RN's as well as the rest of the multidisciplinary team. Performs basic skills per hospital/unit guidelines and communicates observations to members of the healthcare team. How we will care for you, while you care for our patients
