Overview
The Respiratory Care Technician initiates, maintains, and discontinues basic respiratory therapy equipment and techniques in the administration of prescribed respiratory care procedures to patients of all ages with cardio-pulmonary disorders. THIS IS A STUDENT POSITION - MUST BE ENROLLED IN RT PROGRAM. Qualifications Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA) Education: H.S. Diploma/GED (Required) - enrolled in RT program. Work Experience: Responsibilities Prepares and tests respiratory therapy equipment for proper and safe operation and checks equipment in use and on units for proper operations and routine service. Reports malfunctioning equipment to manager.Cleaning , maintenance, and distribution of departmental equipment.Follows safety rules of the Respiratory Care Department and hospital following special instructions, such as, isolation precautions to prevent the spread of infection.Visually inspects and documents patient oxygen use of every patient bed for charging purposes.Receives, documents, and evaluates orders from physicians relating to Respiratory Care. Is aware of the contraindications to medications and treatments.Provides routine care including but not limited to, Arterial blood draws, routine nebulizer / MDI therapy, EZPAP, chest physiotherapy, pulse oximetry, BiPAP / CPAP, and bedside pulmonary function / mechanics.Properly assesses and documents patient condition and response to therapy. Must be alert to adverse responses to care and provide proper response to emergencies.Recognizes the signs of cardiopulmonary arrest / failure and assists in performing CPR procedures. Must also be aware of life-threatening arrhythmias and the proper response to those arrhythmias.Performs CPR procedures as part of the Code Team.Performs all duties under the supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $17.91per hour - $29.01per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
