Position Summary

The University College Advisement Center (UCAC) is seeking a dedicated and student-centered individual to join our advising team. As a member of this highly trained advising team, the Senior Academic Advisor will employ integrated academic advisement guided by student development and advising theories to prospective, current, and former students in University College (UC). This position is responsible for providing non-degree, Liberal Arts & Integrated Studies, Undecided and Pre-Health Science students with academic advisement via individual appointments, workshops, emails, and zoom. Additional duties include coordinating outreach, orientation activities, and delivering public presentations.

UC is an integral part of the University's retention strategy and graduation goal. This involves working with students facing academic challenges, helping students build efficient degree plans, and working with students who are exploring degree options or seeking a degree in the health sciences. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who appreciates working with a diverse student population. In addition, the Sr. Academic Advisor will work collaboratively with their colleagues to facilitate academic success and inform students of other degree plans within University College. The ideal candidate will be passionate about student development and committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

In support of the University's enrollment, retention and graduation goals, provides direct academic advisement to students within an academic school/college. Advises on the school/college's programs and offerings, individual student plans, and strategies for degree attainment. Connects students to resources and services that support individual student success. Monitors student progress and processes academic paperwork related to program completion. Supports academic school/college goals by providing input on academic programs, delivering presentations/workshops, and training lower-level advisors, where applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with a diverse college student population in a public post-secondary institution.
  • Experience evaluating and reviewing transcripts from a variety of institutions within and outside the US.
  • Effective written and communication skills as demonstrated in applicant cover letter and resume.
  • Excellent customer service, team-based skills, and ability to work with a varied student population, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrated skills in multitasking, preparing reports, problem solving, and analyzing program, university, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements.
  • Highly demonstrated database skills and experience in data analytics as a tool for synchronized communication, degree planning, and student intervention.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and working with diverse communities.
