Job Overview
The Subject Matter Expert I (IT Services) will provide high-level subject matter expertise to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) IT Services team regarding many different USCGC installs. This position will be based out of Chesapeake, VA. Work Model: Onsite/In-Office
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support for USCG IT Services systems to include KVH, Starlink, Iridium, and other systems.
- Develop/integrate/troubleshoot various communication systems in support of NIWC and the US Coast Guard.
- The tasks required vary with each system integration requirements.
- Build all types of connectors, be familiar with different types of cables, antennas, and radio systems.
- Provides expert input on internal communications equipment documents.
- Aids during onsite visits to US Coast Guard Ships.
- Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- U.S. Citizen.
- Active SECRET Security Clearance.
- Six (6) years' general government military (Active duty and/or Contractor) experience
- Four (4) years of specific DoD communication systems support to include:
- Cell phone equipment (4G/5G), KVH, Iridium phone systems, 1MC, Interface Alarm Generator Panel (IAGP), Star link, and other Coast Guard systems.
- Travel required to CONUS and OCONUS facilities.
- Able to provide driving record upon request.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and pre-hire drug test.
Working Conditions:
- Shipboard and Shore sites with work generally performed indoors (sedentary). Outdoor work, if any, is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
- Position may be exposed to and is expected to protect internal/external confidential/unclassified information.
- Work hours are subject to change, with pre-approved overtime work as needed.
- Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft-carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces.
- Travel required to CONUS and OCONUS facilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds and follow safe lifting procedures.
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods at a time, sit, use of hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, or smell.
