Purpose of the Role
The Deputy Director - Subcontracts supports the leadership of Worley's subcontracting function by managing the full lifecycle of subcontracting activities across large and complex projects. This role ensures that subcontracting strategies and execution are aligned with the company's purpose of delivering a more sustainable world. The Deputy Director partners with project teams, legal advisors, and client representatives to ensure the successful delivery and performance of subcontracted work, while safeguarding contractual integrity and maximizing value creation.

Key Responsibilities




  • Support the development and execution of subcontracting strategies that align with Worley's sustainability targets and project delivery objectives.



  • Lead or supervise the preparation, negotiation, and administration of subcontract agreements, ensuring compliance with project requirements and internal standards.



  • Oversee post-award subcontract management activities, including performance monitoring, change management, claims avoidance, and dispute resolution.



  • Collaborate with legal, project controls, procurement, and construction teams to mitigate risk and ensure consistency in subcontract terms and obligations.



  • Maintain effective communication with subcontractors, fostering collaborative relationships that drive safe, timely, and quality delivery.



  • Provide guidance to project teams on subcontracting best practices, compliance requirements, and system utilization.



  • Ensure proper documentation and approvals are in place for subcontract amendments, change orders, and invoice validation.



  • Assist in developing subcontractor performance metrics, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned.



  • Participate in the review and enhancement of subcontracting procedures, templates, and tools to support global consistency and efficiency.



  • Act as a deputy to the Director of Procurement Contracts, supporting functional leadership, departmental planning, and staff development activities.



Qualifications / Skill Set




  • University degree or equivalent in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, Construction Management, Law, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.



  • Broad experience in subcontract management within engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects, preferably in the energy, chemicals, or infrastructure sectors.



  • Strong working knowledge of subcontracting principles, contract law, negotiation strategies, and claims management.



  • Demonstrated ability to manage post-award subcontract activities, including scope changes, back charges, closeouts, and performance issues.



  • Experience working on large capital projects and/or managing subcontract execution within dynamic project teams.



  • Ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments, including interfacing directly with clients, legal counsel, and senior management.



  • Skilled in managing subcontractors across various scopes (civil, mechanical, electrical, etc.) while ensuring alignment with project milestones.



  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.



  • Proficient in subcontracting systems and tools, with the ability to guide others in their effective use.



  • Effective communicator and team leader with a collaborative, inclusive, and proactive approach.



  • Commitment to ethical business practices and sustainability-focused procurement principles.
