Position will be based in our Modesto offices, with an option for occasional telecommuting. You will be expected to live within a commutable distance.

Are you a dedicated legal professional with a passion for estate planning, business transactions, and real estate? Join our team as a Staff Counsel, where you will provide invaluable support to senior Legal Department Counsel and work closely with management and outside legal counsel. In this role, you will draft and implement estate plans, trust administration documents, contracts for business transactions, partnerships, tax planning, and real estate transactions.

As a Staff Counsel, you will negotiate, research, review, draft, and advise senior Legal Department counsel and business partners on a wide range of estate, business, and real estate transactions. You will develop expertise in relevant laws, regulations, and practices, providing effective legal advice, drafting and reviewing agreements, and performing other assigned legal functions.

Your responsibilities include understanding and monitoring compliance with applicable tax and business laws, supporting clients' requests for assistance with trust administration and business matters, and consulting with and managing outside counsel as needed. You will develop cooperative and effective working relationships with staff and clients, keeping informed of changes in the law, updating policies and procedures, and implementing strategies to adapt to such changes.

What You Will Need:

  • A Juris Doctorate plus 4 years of experience to include estate planning general and transactional legal practice, and complex contract drafting and negotiation experience, reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel.
  • Required to travel when necessary.
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
  • Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

What Will Set You Apart:

  • A Juris Doctorate plus 6 years of experience to include estate planning general and transactional legal practice, and complex contract drafting and negotiation experience, reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel.
  • 5 years of experience representing estate planning and business clients in a sophisticated law firm and/or in-house practice.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical and critical thinking skills and business acumen.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and success working in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment.
  • Experience that demonstrates negotiation skills and ability to influence and leverage relationships.
  • Experience working as a team player and striving for building consensus.
  • Able to effectively organize time in order to meet deadlines.
  • Skilled at handling multiple projects with a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills.
  • California State Bar member.

Compensation:
  • Hiring Salary Range Posted: $162,000 - $243,000 Annually Plus 10% bonus potential
  • Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
