We're seeking a future team member in the role of Vice President, Mainframe Engineer I to join our Issuers Services Engineering team. This role is in Pittsburgh, PA- HYBRID. We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Engineer with expertise in both batch and online mainframe technologies to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing, testing and maintaining applications in IBM z/OS environment, production support, and mainframe migration related activities. The primary focus of this role is to ensure the quality and reliability of our mainframe applications and be part of the transition towards future platform upgrades. In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:
- Will be supporting maintenance of critical mainframe applications in production, enhancements, new development projects and migration related activities.
- Reviews, analyzes, and modifies IBM z/OS systems including coding, testing, debugging and installing for a large-scale mainframe system.
- Maintains and develops on-line and batch application programs.
- Works with project members to develop specifications, diagrams and flowcharts.
- In-depth knowledge of the software development life cycle including systems design, database systems, networking, operating systems, programming techniques, and technical documentation.
- Works under general supervision; typically reports to a project leader or manager.
- The successful candidate will lead the technical design, development, integration, testing, installation, documentation, and maintenance of highly complex business applications.
- Strong system design, software engineering, problem solving, analytical and research skills.
To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required5-7 years of experience in software development required; experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.
- In depth knowledge of IBM Mainframe z/OS environment with current hands-on development, coding experience
- Must have knowledge of programming languages COBOL, CICS. Experience with various file systems VSAM/FLAT/GDG
- Strong knowledge of JCL/TSO/ISPF. Knowledge of job scheduling (ESP, Control-M)
- Understanding of DB2 database system. Experience with RPG II is a big plus
- Strong in CICS with knowledge of BMS map editing, CICS tables and transactions
- Ability to use various third party tools like INSYNC, SyncSort for data extraction, manipulation and load of VSAM. Should be able to run and analyze test jobs for various testing needs of QA/ UAT teams
- Hands on experience with Endevor and familiarity with ETL, file transmissions mechanisms, NDM is a plus.
- Must be a self starter and able to research, identify a problem and solution. Must have good communication skills, interaction with UAT and business teams
- Experience with large financial applications integrated in a distributed setup with various modern technologies. Experience with COBOL reengineering and re-platforming of mainframe applications

The base salary for this position is expected to be between $80,000 and $145,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs. This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
