Description
Duties: The Engineer II Operations Planning FRES at Midcontinent Independent System Operator Inc. in Carmel, IN will build near-term models of the MISO Power System that accurately simulate projected operating planning studies, including power flow contingency, stability analysis, and other engineering support studies. Analyze the impact of outages on MISO's power grid with expected load forecasts, interchange commitments, generation commitments for specific timeframes in the next-day and two-day horizon. Analyze contingency, voltage stability, load pocket transfer, transient stability, and security constraint dispatch analysis to analyze different outages, contingencies, and develop an action plan to ensure safe and reliable operation. Facilitate communications among stakeholders, including interactions with transmission owners, market participants, neighboring RTOs, and first tier companies. Evaluate system performance issues and prepare reports associated with potential transmission limitations, synchronized forecast assumptions, coordinated congestion management, and create mitigation plans for adverse system conditions. Utilize Control Room Outage Window (CROW) to enter, modify, and communicate information about outages, derates, and equipment. Support complex projects and provide technical engineering solutions to support, enhance, automate, maintain, and troubleshoot departmental processes, tools, and applications. Assist in the design, development, and testing of applications, software, and tools. Apply advanced power system engineering techniques to generate and analyze options and make recommendations while considering how the solution(s) may change or impact the organization. #LI-NDI, #LI-DNI and #LI-DNP. Minimum Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Power Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 2 years in a power systems engineer occupation or related occupation; including 2 years of experience with each of the following: (1) power system analysis, including load flow, contingency, voltage stability, security constraint dispatch, and state estimation; (2) PSS/E, TARA, or related real time system applications; (3) transmission planning and operations processes; and (4) real time power system operations for real and reactive power flow and control.
