The Value Stream Lead will, in addition to individual manufacturing responsibilities, oversee the performance for a set of Manufacturing Operations within a Value Steam or Product Line or Family. This individual implements the Watts Performance System (WPS) and Lead Principles & tools to ensure a safe and productive environment, drive quality improvements, provide premier customer service, develop a technically qualified workforce, reduce operating costs, inventories and lead times through continuous improvement.
The Value Stream Lead (VSL) is the responsible team lead for a set of manufacturing processes within a Value Stream to include: the assignment of duties and performance objectives, the development of associates and the implementation of cross training, facilitating tier meetings, the implementation of standard work, measurements of productivity and quality to goals, and the effective performance oversight of all associates in their responsible operations.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Lead the assigned Value Stream operations in daily execution & continuous improvements tasks to include but are not limited to: daily production targets, meeting manufacturing priorities, effective supply chain replenishment and the coordination of work assignment and activities to meet orders.
- Lead member of Lean implementation team(s) resulting in productivity gains, the delivery of continuous product flow, the utilization of pull systems, and workload leveling.
- Executes continuous improvement efforts & fosters employee empowerment by ensuring that standardized work/processes are followed, countermeasures implemented, and the area is compliant with safety requirements. Executes foundational Lean tools of the WPS, 5-S and quality to sustain a visually controlled environment that ensures conformance, improvement and problem solving.
- Ensure that standard work is followed, and all equipment is operational, in good working order and safe through periodic audits and implementation of an auditing system
- Instills and maintains a positive can-do team atmosphere within the Value Stream; holding regular tier and problem-solving meetings and assigning team member's tasks and coordinate support services needed within and outside the team.
- Facilitates tier meetings and small group activities in support of the Lean and meets with the employees regularly, reflecting on problems, solutions, and challenges, thereby creating a culture of continuous improvement and contributing towards becoming a learning organization.
- Ensures effective cross-training for the Value Stream Associates, the creation and implementation of a skills matrix, to include backups from other areas, to assure a continuous smooth-running Value Stream.
- Provides associates with regular feedback on performance to plan
- Able to create and deliver on the job training as required
- Additional projects as assigned.
EDUCATION: High School degree or equivalent. Two-year Associates degree preferred. MANAGEMENT:
- Responsible for approximately 5-15 people direct and indirect
- Responsible for a set of operations within a Value Stream's ensuring equipment up time, sustainability, process execution & work/task assignments & scheduling.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- 3-5 years of team leader experience and manufacturing accomplishment with a history of increased responsibility in the execution of manufacturing process improvements preferred.
- Basic experience in managing costs, PC skills, manufacturing, inventory control and production planning.
- Demonstrated ability to lead small teams to achieve objectives and results. Capable of assessing and developing individual and team skills and capabilities. Able to create and maintain enthusiasm for new and challenging goals. Serve as a role model by promoting new ideas and positive change.
- Basic knowledge and experience in LEAN manufacturing and foundational lean/problem solving tools
- Embraces change, a sense of urgency, and demonstrated comfort and command in a hands-on team environment
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Ability to lead, coach & facilitate process improvements
- Basic written and verbal communication skill
- Knowledge of company policies, rules and regulations applying to area of responsibility
- Working knowledge of all manufacturing processes, equipment, parts and components in area of
responsibility - Knowledge of all environmental health and safety, quality and labor standards applying to area of
responsibility - Team lead foundational skills of listening, problem solving, planning, scheduling and training
