Job Title: Sr, Mgr., Head of Dynamic Systems USA Products and AW609 System Engineer (Rotor Systems)

Department: Engineering

Reports to: LH US VP of Engineering and Head of Rotor Technical Area.

Location(s): Philadelphia, PA with occasional domestic and international travel.

  1. Summary of Position: (Brief description of overall responsibilities and function)

Dynamic System USA Products

Overall responsibility for the Dynamic System team based in US, that includes Drive System, Rotors and Fatigue technical areas.

  1. Perimeter of responsibility is all products where the FAA is the approving authority as well as the required support to Part 21 and Part 145 Engineering activities.
  2. Provide an overall geographic view of the engineering skills sustainment and organizational effectiveness.
  3. Be the local extension of Dynamic Systems technical areas within the Engineering, having a local portfolio of basic competencies with a strong connection with the technical areas across the geographies for design, more detailed analysis or workload.
  4. Act as part of the managerial chain of the engineering, contributing to plan and organize the activities to achieve overall US Engineering targets pursuing the share of common solutions and processes on clusters of programs and use of common approach to development and certification/qualification processes.
  5. Work together with the Dynamic Systems technical areas, across the geographies, in order to guarantee coherent design solutions and methodologies, knowledge sharing and competencies development, contributing to the definition of architecture and requirements within the area of competence.
  6. Accountable for FAA certification activities pertaining Dynamic Systems technical areas, working closely with FAA representatives and DER's.
  7. Ensure multi-program management to better leverage on use of available resources and competencies, reinforcing industrial performances oversight for the Dynamic System Area AWPC perimeter.
  8. Ensure integration, qualification, and certification at system level upon delegation from the correspondent Technical Area/Macro Area.
  9. Execute specific design activities and be responsible for customer' modifications execution in agreement with related technical disciplines and in full alignment with them.
  10. Coordinate and be responsible for day-by-day management of Technical Leaders and Engineers belonging to the correspondent Technical Area.

AW609 System Engineer, Chief Project and Technical Leader for the Rotor System

  1. Be the System Type Design authority and drive AW609 related design activities within the belonging Technical Area and FAA requirement solution.
  2. Primary FAA interface in terms as Design Authority for the assigned system with the responsibility to ensure design compliance, being expert of FAA requirements and processes
  3. Overall responsibility for ensuring the AW609 Rotor System design satisfies customer and business objectives and complies with certification rules including operational, performance, dynamic, static and fatigue strength criteria.
  4. Plan, budget, control and functionally coordinate all cross geographical activities and resources related to the AW609 Rotor qualification ensuring adherence to schedule, costs and requirements coherently with the Company targets.
  5. Lead the cross-geographical technical team to develop design solutions and to show compliance at system, component, and discipline level to applicable technical, programmatic, and certification related requirements.
  6. Develop, deliver, and manage detailed design data, technical specifications, test plans, technical reports and ensure technical management of Suppliers for the demonstration of compliance of bought-out components/systems.
  7. Understand, review, and endorse how the identified design solution complies with requirements when considered at A/C integration level.
  8. Conduct aircraft-level tests within the US geography and produce test results to show compliance.
  9. Support industrialization, continued airworthiness, customer support/training, sales & marketing, and post-TC development activities for relevant system or discipline

Accountable for the specific design activities and customer's modifications performed in US in full alignment with Dynamic Systems Technical Areas.

Accountable for technical certification activities for the Dynamic Systems and to show design compliance of the technical solutions to the FAA. Work closely with the FAA and DER in supporting showing compliance to applicable technical, programmatic and certification requirements.

4.

Jointly support, together with LH Heads of Rotor, Fatigue and Transmission Technical Areas, the planning and execution of activities for an efficient demonstration of compliance of the design solutions across the product lines.

Coordinate and be responsible for day-by-day management of Rotors, Drive Systems and Fatigue Technical Leaders.

6.

Together with Area/Discipline managers, execute performance review of TL and engineers and develop the competence plan and career development for each member of the team.

Responsible for coordinating with Head of Technical Areas, the SOW for the activities to be done by their team every year in order to define, working with Engineering Governance, their budget based on activities.

Duties and Responsibilities for AW609 System Engineer, Chief Project and Technical Leader for

the Rotor System:

1.

Lead the cross-geo Rotor System technical team to develop design solutions and to show compliance at system and component level to applicable technical, programmatic, and certification related requirements. Also:

- guarantee full alignment to the technical objectives, planning and execution of engineering design tasks.

- have full access to the technical knowledge.

- ensure adherence to LH Engineering best practices and processes, engaging the appropriate interfaces.

- understand, review and endorse how the identified design solution complies with requirements.

- plan, budget, control and functionally coordinate all cross geographical activities and resources related to the AW609 Rotor qualification ensuring adherence to schedule, costs and requirements coherently with the Company targets.

2.

Be the primary FAA interface with the responsibility to ensure design compliance, being experts of FAA requirements and processes, resourcing to technical teams, local or remote, when needed.

Show compliance to AW609 Certification requirements (operational, performance, dynamic, static strength and fatigue), ensuring proper collection, review and approval of deliverables demonstrating compliance criteria. Develop, deliver and manage detailed design data, technical specifications, test plans, technical reports and ensure technical management of Suppliers for the demonstration of compliance of bought-out components/systems.

Resolve certification issues through discussions with authorities/DER's, to address aircraft integration issues, and to provide dispositions for flight test squawks /test article deviations.

Analyze, classify and sentence MDR/Concessions, Deviation Permits and NIs according to the LH procedures and authorizations as per ATE role.

Conduct aircraft-level tests.

Support industrialization, continued airworthiness, customer support/training, sales & marketing, and post-TC development activities for relevant system or discipline.

Coordinate with global supply chain, AW609 Integrated Development Teams, Quality, and Operations to ensure alignment across physical, functional, and organizational interfaces. Effectively communicate to all levels of the organization.

  1. Qualifications for Position:

A. Education

MS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

B. Experience

  1. Minimum ten years of experience in a leadership capacity for an aircraft development program.
  2. Minimum ten years of technical experience involved in design, test, and analysis of structural components for developmental aircraft.
  3. Minimum ten years years of experience in a technical capacity developing rotor/proprotor system for new type design helicopters and tiltrotors.
  4. Minimum of five years of experience participating in transport-category certification programs.
  5. Minimum of five years of experience performing Project Management duties.
  6. Minimum of five years of personnel management experience.
  7. DER and/or ODA Engineering Unit Member experience preferred.

C. Competencies & Attributes

1.

Strong understanding of component structural testing to show compliance to static and fatigue strength requirements. Good understanding and practical experience in damage/flaw tolerance fatigue methodologies. Strong understanding of composite and metal rotor and transmission design and analysis, tiltrotor design and digital product definition using CATIA v5/v6.

2.

Practical experience with FAA certification processes.

3.

Proven experience to create plans, communicate them, and execute them efficiently across a diverse and complex organization. EVMS experience required.

4.

Strong communication and presentation skills, ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization, ability to negotiate win-win solutions in the presence of conflict and ambiguity, and ability to be a persuasive advocate to internal and external customers.

5.

High integrity and technical expertise as necessary to interface with certification authorities for Rotor System, Drive System, and Fatigue.

6.

Strong experience with proprotor blades and hubs, analysis, installation design, and tiltrotor design loads/criteria, digital product definition using CATIA v5/v6, and fatigue methodology.

7.

High integrity and technical expertise as necessary to qualify as an AW609 DER for Rotor.
