Broadwind Heavy Fabrications is searching for a Supply Chain Specialist to join our team in Abilene, TX. The Supply Chain Specialist will be responsiblefor identifying and coordinating supply chain resources needed to execute production initiatives. This is a very hands-on role, requiring a close relationship with those involved in manufacturing and a thorough understanding of the schedule to ensure needed supplies are available to meet our customer's deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (May include some or all of the following responsibilities)


  • Manage sourcing/purchasing activities, based on the production schedule, ensuring required supplies are on site at the time needed.
  • Assess pricing, timelines, availability and quality of materials.
  • Research costs,negotiate pricing, leverage spend, standardize products/services where possible to support cost-savings initiatives; suggest supply changes based on pricing and production strategies.
  • Oversee supplier relationships; question and hold supplier accountable for cost increases, misses in delivery or quality.
  • Follow established non-conformance processes and report problems immediately.
  • Communicate and coordinate with all departments as needed.
  • Support estimating team in RFQ process supplying material estimates for quotes to our customers
  • Work with teams to perform inventory counts on necessary intervals; assist finance with invoice discrepancies and supplier billing issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications


  • Associate degree in purchasing, supply chain, logistics or related field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in supply chain, business management, accounting, finance, engineering is desired.
  • 2+ years in a purchasing or supply chain role.
  • 2+ years in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience with order management systems required; Great Plains software experience preferred.
  • CPIM, CPM, Lean, other related certifications is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with proof of insurance required due to visits to supplier sites.

  • Strong sense of urgency and understanding of the obligation to keep production running.
  • High attention to detail, good analysis and reporting skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and come up with sound alternatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer/vendor interface skills.
  • Ability to negotiate with successful result.
  • Skilled with Microsoft office.
  • Conduct all business with vendors customers with the highest of ethical standards.
