About the Position

Are you passionate about nutrition? As a Nutrition Associate, you will provide services to the participants in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, such as nutrition counseling and education, verification of eligibility, nutrition assessment, and education.

We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition by the time of hire

OR

  • Associate's degree in Nutrition by the time of hire, and hold the Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration or be eligible and able to pass the credentialing exam within 12 months of hire with the first attempt at credentialing exam occurring within three months of hire

Job Contributions

  • Provide one-on-one nutrition counseling for participantswhorequire more than basic nutrition counseling services, such asnutrition assessments, participant-centered nutrition counseling and education, documentation of nutrition care plan, nutrition, and breastfeeding education

  • Assess eligibility and certify participants for the WIC program, including determination of WIC benefits, performing and interpreting hemoglobin screening tests, and accurate anthropometric measurements

  • Assign and issue appropriate food benefits, documents, and assure accuracy of participant files, and refer participants to other local and state agencies as needed

  • Conduct group nutrition education, including facilitated group discussions both in-person and on online platforms

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an office environment with a flexible work schedule that may include evenings, position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

  • Position is not 100% telework, time may be split between working remotely from home and in a shared clinic space

  • Home access to a computer, mobile device, and the internet is necessary if splitting time between home and office, with daily communication with co-workers through virtual meetings, email, and Microsoft Teams messaging and participant interactions to include remote appointments via video, phone, and in-person

  • May be assigned to work at alternate WIC sites, as needed

  • Must obtain an ID.me account by the time of hire in order to verify client eligibility through AHCCCS

  • Ability to travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies using a County or private vehicle

  • Ability to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency

  • Ability to exert 20-25 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly

  • Within one month of hire, all employees are required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
