Position Summary |
The District Extension Water Educator is a member of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension and is responsible for carrying out the agricultural water conservation initiative and promoting education and best management practices related to water and conservation both with adult and youth audiences. This position is administratively attached to the District Extension Office and administratively reports to the District Extension Director. This position will also work closely with the Extension Irrigation Specialist to strengthen the extension and applied research program focusing on agricultural water conservation. Programmatically, the District Agriculture & Natural Resources Program Development Coordinator will provide leadership in developing a plan of work and coordinating overall work flow. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Ability to effectively relate to agricultural industry and clientele, University, county and state faculty and staff, state agency representatives, and professional associations
- Demonstrated abilities in the areas of planning, organizing, budgeting, personnel management, motivation and team building
- Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication
- Broad understanding of irrigation management and relationships with green industry production practices
- Ability to learn about all of the services and resources available to county Extension clientele and the ability to assist clientele with access to these services and resources
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county, district, and state staff, local government employees, and clientele
- Proficiency in current word processing and data management (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Mapping is a plus |

- Plan and coordinate educational programs and events related to water and conservation
Aid in the development and conduction of educational programs for both youth and adult audiences
- Educate agricultural producers and landowners on proper irrigation permitting and water use, in addition to planning and implementation of agricultural best management practices related to water conservation
- Educate agricultural producers and landowners on record keeping methods and techniques to assist them with conservation best management practice use and maintenance and provide assistance for compliance with USDA Conservation Plans
- Collaborate with the other District Extension Water Agents to promote Extension Water Education
- Work with appropriate UGA Extension and Research Faculty including the Extension Irrigation Specialist to develop an extension and applied research program focused on agricultural water conservation
- Provide assistance in water conservation issues to County Extension Agents in the assigned district as requested
- Provide water conservation techniques and methods to agricultural producers and landowners in the assigned district
- Coordinate irrigation system audits using Mobile Irrigation Labs with District Extension Water Agents
- Set up visits with agricultural producers and landowners through County Extension agents to update irrigation systems with the end goal to conserve water
