Texas NeuroRehab Center is a specialized treatment facility located ten minutes from downtown Austin on 67 wooded acres. We have served the Austin community for over 80-years and are proud of our history and tenured leadership team.

Today, Texas NeuroRehab Center provides complex medical and brain injury rehab for ages 13 years and older and neurobehavioral residential treatment services for children and adolescents. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges.

Texas NeuroRehab Center is currently accepting applicants for a Director of Neuropsychology . The Director of Neuropsychology will provide comprehensive neuropsychological services to patients and their families across multiple treatment settings. The Director of Neuropsychology is responsible for administering and supervising the Neuropsychology Department's clinical assessment and intervention services, ensuring quality care delivery throughout the facility. This role ensures compliance with regulations for neuropsychological services and provides training and support for the Clinical Services department. Serves as support to senior management and liaison with other departments, as necessary.

Patient Populations Served

Adult Neurological Conditions

Patients present across long-term acute care (LTAC), inpatient rehabilitation (IPR), and post-acute brain injury (PABI) residential settings with conditions including:

  • Traumatic Brain Injury: Severe TBI, focal and diffuse brain injuries, diffuse axonal injury (DAI)
  • Cerebrovascular Disorders: Stroke and related vascular conditions
  • Neurodegenerative Disorders: Progressive neurological conditions affecting cognition and behavior
  • Acute Neurological Conditions: Encephalopathies and delirium
  • Complex Medical Conditions: Polytrauma and spinal cord injury
  • Behavioral Health Conditions: Self-inflicted injuries, substance use disorders, and functional neurological disorders

Child and Adolescent Population (Ages 8-17)

Nationwide referrals to residential treatment setting with complex presentations including:

  • Neurodevelopmental Disorders: Autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, genetic syndromes
  • Psychiatric Conditions: Mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, PTSD
  • Behavioral Disorders: Conduct problems, behavioral non-compliance, impulse control disorders
  • Trauma-Related Conditions: Histories of physical, sexual, and neglect abuse with associated behavioral and emotional sequelae
  • Neurobehavioral Conditions: ADHD, executive dysfunction, behavioral dysregulation

Key Responsibilities

Neuropsychological Assessment

  • Provide comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations within the context of inpatient adult neurorehabilitation across LTAC, IPR, and PABI settings
  • Conduct assessments with child and adolescent populations (ages 8-17) presenting with complex neurodevelopmental, emotional, and behavioral issues within residential treatment settings
  • Oversee assessments conducted both directly and under supervision via psychometrists and trainees
  • Ensure quality and compliance of all psychological testing and evaluation procedures

Consultation-Liaison Services

  • Provide neuropsychological differential diagnosis for cognitive, emotional, and behavioral difficulties across patient populations
  • Conduct assessments of patient competence and decision-making capacity from a neuropsychological perspective
  • Develop individualized neuropsychologically-informed behavior plans for both child/adolescent and adult patients
  • Provide school consultation services with on-site charter school programs regarding cognitive and academic implications
  • Collaborate with medical teams on complex cases requiring neuropsychological input

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Participate in treatment staffing and rounding with medical staff, social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, case management, teachers, and direct care staff
  • Serve as neuropsychology liaison across all treatment teams
  • Contribute neuropsychological expertise to comprehensive treatment planning
  • Coordinate care transitions and discharge planning from neuropsychological perspective

Direct Intervention Services

  • Provide direct individual and group interventions to address neuropsychological sequelae including adjustment to cognitive changes, mood disturbance, and behavioral issues
  • Deliver evidence-based neuropsychologically-informed treatments including supportive psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral treatment, mindfulness-based interventions, and psychoeducation to patients and families
  • Implement specialized cognitive rehabilitation and behavioral interventions appropriate for complex trauma histories and neurobehavioral conditions

Staff Training and Development

  • Provide training to direct care staff in neuropsychologically-informed best practices for behavioral management with adult TBI populations
  • Train staff in evidence-based approaches for managing neurobehavioral presentations in child and adolescent populations, particularly those with trauma histories
  • Develop and implement neuropsychology-related policies and procedures
  • Ensure neuropsychology staff maintain current competencies and certifications

Clinical Education and Supervision

  • Provide training and supervision of doctoral students in neuropsychology
  • Contribute to the clinical training mission of the facility

Administrative Leadership

  • Oversee all Neuropsychology Department operations and staff
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations for neuropsychological services
  • Manage department budget and resources
  • Coordinate with facility administration on neuropsychology-related matters
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices in clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation neuropsychology

Qualifications

The following are the job requirements for the Director of Neuropsychology position.

Required Education and Licensure

  • Education: Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology with specialization in Clinical Neuropsychology
  • Licensure: Licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP) to practice Psychology

Required Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in clinical neuropsychology with populations similar to those served by this facility's programs
  • Experience with both adult neurological populations and pediatric neuropsychological assessment
  • Demonstrated expertise in neuropsychological assessment and neuropsychologically-informed intervention
  • Experience in multidisciplinary rehabilitation team settings
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in neuropsychology preferred

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of brain-behavior relationships, neuropsychological assessment, and neurological conditions
  • Experience with complex trauma presentations and their neuropsychological sequelae
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation neuropsychology across different levels of care (LTAC, IPR, residential)
  • Familiarity with evidence-based neuropsychological interventions including cognitive rehabilitation, CBT, mindfulness, and psychoeducation
  • Understanding of special education and school consultation processes from a neuropsychological perspective
  • Training and supervision experience with graduate students in neuropsychology

Physical and General Requirements

  • Able to lift 25 pounds with occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to use a computer and/or write for extended periods of time
  • Hearing, vision, and emotional stability sufficient to perform essential job functions and deal with changing priorities
  • Able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Able to physically restrain patients by individual or team restraint per facility policy when necessary
  • Regular and expected attendance
  • Flexibility to work with diverse patient populations across age ranges and acuity levels
