Role Summary & Impact
The Director, Research & Insights role is responsible for bringing together and analyzing data from multiple sources to help Google make better strategic media and communications choices rooted in human insights. The Research & Insights team sits within the Strategy discipline, providing critical data-driven insights that informs strategic direction. All our people, processes and technology are united through our focus on understanding the consumer and their behavior to derive strategic insights that better connect Google to their audiences and make our strategies more effective.
  • Proactively design and build bespoke insights solutions/tools fueled by disparate data sources
  • Manage the creation and delivery of high-priority client deliverables, including comprehensive global competitive spend reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Transform complex 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party data into clear, compelling narratives and visualizations that inform strategic recommendations across competitive, cultural, consumer, and media landscapes.
  • Identify and define new audience segments for clients, developing a deep understanding of their motivations, behaviors, and preferred communication channels to inform marketing strategies
  • Craft and present data-driven narratives to internal and external stakeholders, effectively communicating complex insights and recommendations to influence decision-making.
  • Drive thought leadership initiatives by creating and sharing insightful content on competitive dynamics, cultural trends, consumer insights, and media strategies, providing valuable resources and actionable guidance for clients
  • Cultivate strong relationships with clients, serving as a trusted advisor by proactively understanding their business objectives, challenges, and information needs, and providing tailored insights and recommendations
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and internal consultant to planning and strategy teams, educating them on the effective use of available data resources and analytical tools to inform strategic decision-making
  • Support New Business pitches and other projects, as needed, by providing insight analysis and guidance
Qualifications
  • Minimum 6 years of industry experience in research, analytics, or media, demonstrating a progressive increase in responsibility.
  • Previous experience at an agency, consultancy, research supplier, publisher, or brand preferred.
Technical Skills:
  • Programming: Proficient in Python and/or R programming for data analysis and statistical modeling.
  • Data Manipulation: Expertise in data manipulation techniques, including joins, sorting, filtering, merging, aggregation/summarization, window functions, regex, string manipulation, and date/time conversions.
  • Data Management: Proven ability to create and maintain data dictionaries, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  • Spreadsheet Software: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex functions, data analysis tools (e.g., Solver, Data Analysis Toolpak), and pivot tables.
  • Data Quality: Experience with data quality assurance and validation techniques, including error handling and data cleansing.
  • Syndicated Data: Working knowledge of syndicated consumer and media sources (MRI, Nielsen, Pathmatics, Vivvix, Comscore, YouGov, GWI, etc.).
  • API Integration: Familiarity with API integration and management for data extraction and automation.
  • Statistical Methods: Knowledge and application of foundational statistical methods (e.g., regression analysis, hypothesis testing, ANOVA) to effectively analyze data, identify trends, and drive data-driven decision-making.

  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrates creativity in problem-solving, with the ability to distill the real question being asked, develop innovative solutions, and a strong curiosity for uncovering the 'whys' behind questions.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
  • Storytelling: A natural storyteller with highly articulate and persuasive writing and speaking skills.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The base salary for this position at the time of this posting may range from $100,000 to $230,000. Individual compensation varies based on job-related factors, including business needs, experience, level of responsibility and qualifications.
