Summary

Position Summary

We seek a Senior Director of Revenue Accounting to manage and oversee all aspects of revenue accounting functions, including revenue recognition, contract review, revenue-related processes and controls, and revenue systems, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. This role will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive operational efficiencies and support the company's growth and financial objectives. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in revenue accounting, ASC 606 application, technical accounting knowledge, and a proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams. This position reports to the Chief Accounting Officer and is open to candidates commutable to our St. Louis, Chicago, or Irvine offices.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

    Act as a leader and strategic resource for all revenue-related matters.
  • Develop team objectives and strategic roadmaps aligned with company growth and priority initiatives.
  • Oversee the revenue recognition process in accordance with ASC 606 and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Manage a robust and scalable contract review process, ensuring salient contract terms are captured and revenue is recognized in accordance with GAAP.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with billing, product, revenue operations, sales, and legal teams on new products, initiatives, contract analysis, and deal structuring, assessing impacts on revenue recognition, operational scalability, and business risk.
  • Manage the month-end revenue close process, including reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations, and performing analytical reviews and fluctuation analysis on revenue to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Lead financial close review meetings, reporting results and key metrics to business leaders.
  • Develop and maintain revenue accounting policies and procedures to ensure they reflect best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure internal controls for revenue accounting are adequate and operating effectively.
  • Provide thought leadership on revenue processes, analytics, policies, and procedures that leverage technology, maximize efficiency, and provide scalability to support company growth.
  • Assist with setting up, maintaining, and enhancing revenue accounting systems, ensuring they meet business needs, internal control requirements, and accounting standards.
  • Manage periodic stand-alone selling price analysis.
  • Oversee current expected credit losses (CECL) calculations and methodology.
  • Lead or assist with research and preparation of revenue-related technical accounting memos and position papers.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct Reports

- Hires, retains, trains, coaches, guides, directs, and develops direct reports using company-wide processes, tools and resources

Indirect Reports

- May delegate work of others and provide guidance, direction and mentoring to indirect reports

Travel and/or Driving Requirements

- Travel and Driving are not essential duties or functions of this job.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent work experience; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in multi-national general corporate or public accounting (mix of both preferred), including 3+ years as a supervisor/leader.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, ASC 606, and revenue recognition principles; experience with commission-based revenue models preferred.
  • Experience in retail, CPG or similar companies preferred.
  • Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and revenue management tools, preferably with experience in SAP S/4HANA, Salesforce, or similar applications.
  • History of developing process improvements and implementing internal controls; familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and documentation.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with experience managing multiple priorities, large-scale projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience leading, coaching, and developing teams in rapid growth environments.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to shifting company or team goals.
