Job Title: Staff Mechanical Engineer Department: MERC College/Division: Mercer Engineering Research Center Primary Job Posting Location: Warner Robins, GA 31088-7810 Job Details: Mercer Engineering Research Center (MERC), a research institute of Mercer University, provides high quality engineering, scientific, and technical support services to both government and private industry customers. MERC is recruiting for a Staff Mechanical Engineer for its Electronic Warfare and Avionics Directorate and Mechanical product areas. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES o Analysis of existing technology applications, processes, and products, taking into consideration costs, life cycle considerations, reliability, maintainability, productivity, and long-term support. o Performing intensive technology research & evaluation of a broad array of alternative solutions to improve existing implementations. o Defining and implementing advanced technological implementations and evaluations to provide risk reduction & determine production feasibility of improved and alternate technological implementations. o Designing, implementing, and achieving operational status of advanced technological and engineering approaches to satisfy customer needs. o Participation in multidiscipline design teams and process action team efforts. o Preparing and presenting design alternatives to a multidiscipline review peer group. o Preparing and implementing designs that apply multidiscipline solutions achieving breakthrough performance and unique technological applications. o Diagnosing existing and perspective customer needs and opportunities through informal and formal interaction to understand present operations and limitations and customer priorities and needs. o Preparing and presenting detailed technical presentations, using information gathered both directly and indirectly, to provide customer insight into technological capabilities that could significantly improve operations. o Ensuring strong technical communication and understanding through use of terms, design illustrations, and operating paradigms common to the customer experience. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS -US Citizenship is required. -Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance. -An undergraduate degree in a relevant engineering field (Mechanical, Aerospace) from an ABET accredited institution. -Experience with basic principles of drafting, CAD, statics, dynamics, strength of materials, and stress calculations. -Additional requirements may be added as appropriate and as specified in the specific Personnel Requisition Form. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: -Experience in using NASTRAN, AFGROW, NX, LSDYNA, ABAQUS, SolidWorks, MATLAB/Python/, LabView, ANSYS, or other modeling and simulation tools. -Experience with structural testing, instrumentation, and data reduction. Final rank will be determined on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Application must include a cover letter and resume.
