Bridge Inspection Program Specialist Duties and Responsibilities:

The Bridge Inspection Program Specialist (BIPS) is responsible for ensuring that the bridge inspection program meets the requirements of the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), insuring that staff inspections and reports for bridges and other structures are in conformance with the most recent technologies, processes, safety and quality oversite. The BIPM responsibilities are:



  • Attract, develop and retain technical talent within the bridge inspection group
  • Create market domination and differentiation for Alpha in bridge management
  • Capture technology innovation to value price, shape market and grow bridge inspection services
  • Partner with the team to ensure the quality, safety and efficiency of project deliverables, may perform quality control reviews
  • Acts as a technical resource for the company for Bridge Management in all geographies.
  • Coordinate special investigations and join field teams as needed to ensure efficient, safe and efficient methodologies of bridge management.
  • Conduct training and update existing quality manuals and procedures in alignment with industry standards and their specific expertise


Over 20 years overseeing the successful delivery of bridge and structural management programs.



  • Requires a P.E. in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia or the ability to obtain within 6 months of joining. May need other state P.E.s, as needed
  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
  • M.S degree in Civil Engineering with Structures specialty is preferred.


Physical Demands

The incumbent in this position can typically expect to sit and use his/her hands to handle and feel for more than 1/3 of the day. He/she can expect to stand or walk for more than 2/3 of the day. Talking and listening are also expected for more than 2/3 of the day. The ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, or reach with arms will be needed for less than 2/3 of the day.

This position requires that the incumbent be able to lift items up to 70 pounds on an infrequent basis.

The incumbent in this position should have clear vision at 20 inches or less. He/she should be able to view various reports and forms as well as information displayed on a computer monitor and have the ability to distinguish between different colors. Depth perception, peripheral vision, the ability to focus, and the ability to see from a distance are also necessary.
