Position Summary
As a Risk & Research Technology Manager for Core Systems, you'll be at the forefront of revolutionizing our investment technology. This role is part of the Engineering Solutions organization and reports directly to TCW's Head of Risk and Research Technology. You'll drive the mission for accelerating Quantitative Development, empowering our Quant Dev and Researchers with cutting-edge Risk & Research technology. Leading pivotal projects, including cloud transition, research sandbox creation, operational resilience enhancement, and portfolio platform integration. This role manages a globally distributed contractor workforce, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of Core Platform capabilities, partnering closely with quant, and enterprise technology teams. The manager will act as the bridge between business-aligned quant development and scalable engineering execution.
Essential Duties
Governance & Planning: Represent Risk & Research Technology on the Change Control Board, lead business continuity and disaster recovery planning, and ensure architecture reviews occur to ensure secure, scalable, and high-performing systems.
- Operations & Delivery: Lead day-to-day planning and delivery of tech initiatives across core systems, translating roadmap initiatives into actionable tasks for contractor teams, coordinating sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives, tracking deliverables, resolving blockers, and escalating risks appropriately.
- Agile Leadership & Product Management: Serve as Scrum Master to promote Agile collaboration and collaborate with the R2 core tech lead to prioritize features that deliver clear business value. Ensure delivery to R2 modules on the TIME Platform, maintaining strong working relationships with enterprise teams.
- Consultant & Vendor Oversight: Solid-line supervisor for all R2 Core contractors, enforcing accountability and maintaining velocity across nearshore, offshore, and on-site contractors, supporting consultant hiring, onboarding, knowledge continuity, and ensuring accurate time reporting. Ensure time zone coverage supports critical process and business hours.
- Mentorship & Team Development: Provide respectful, integrity-driven mentorship to junior staff, fostering knowledge sharing, skill growth, and accountability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; a master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of seven years of experience in platform engineering, or technical program management, preferably within risk management, research, or financial services.
- Deep familiarity with software delivery practices (Agile methodologies, DevOps, CI/CD)
- Prior experience managing globally distributed contractor or MSP teams
- Strong understanding of business continuity planning and architecture review processes.
- Ability to mentor and develop junior team members.
- Strong understanding of financial data and risk/analytics platforms is highly desirable

Estimated Compensation: Base Salary: For CA based position, the base salary range is $200k - $210k. This represents base salary range only.
