Summary
The primary purpose of this position is for maintaining and continuously improving the Quality Management System while providing supervision and leadership to the Quality Assurance and Installation and Technical Support teams. This position is responsible for developing quality standards and establishing programs for implementing and monitoring customer and supplier quality requirements by acting as liaison for problems and concerns. This position will develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation as well as serve as the quality representative for third-party certifications. This position will also direct and guide their teams to achieve continuous improvement and assure quality costs are analyzed and controlled.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain strong communication with internal customers to recommend, create, and implement quality policies and procedures as deemed necessary to maintaining an effective QMS.
- Lead efforts to maintain fabricator approval and certifications from third-party agencies and update QMS as appropriate.
- Manage QMS internal audit scheduling, execution and follow-up.
- Initiate, implement, maintain, and enhance QMS improvements through an active preventative and corrective action system that solves problems at the root to eliminate or minimize risk and associated cost.
- Investigate, document, and disposition internal and external nonconformances. Issue and drive associated corrective actions to completion.
- Perform data driven analysis to determine root cause of quality issues and verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Analyze internal and external quality costs, nonconformances, and trends and create reports and presentations associated with this information.
- Provide on-the-floor quality support for manufacturing by efficiently problem-solving issues.
- Approve inspection processes and methods to inspect parts in most cost-effective manner.
- Establish and maintain company quality control program requirements with suppliers.
- Assist with supplier relationships through active communication and timely response to supplier quality issues and concerns.
- Meet with suppliers to investigate non-conformances, facilitate implementation of corrective actions and improve business relationships.
- Explore new ideas and quality methods that will better enhance Porter Corp's market position from a quality and cost perspective.
- Evaluate repair/replacement costs prior to authorizing field corrections. Track and analyze field issues to determine if there is a systemic problem.
- Take a lead role in approving, negotiating or denying field back charges. Communicate with sales representatives or general contractors to provide status updates and determine next steps.
- Provide leadership in problem solving and troubleshooting to achieve timely resolution of internal quality issues.
- Conduct performance evaluations of direct reports.
- Make personnel decisions including hiring, termination, compensation and discipline.
- Serve as an integral member of management team and assist in formulating general operating practices and strategies.

Education and/or Experience
- Must possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent schooling/work experience in a Quality Engineering role.
- 5+ years of quality supervision experience is preferred.
- Experience with the requirements of AISC is preferred.
Travel
- This position requires minimal to no travel.
Computer Skills
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.
- Demonstrated proficiency using EPICOR ERP or similar systems.
Other Requirements
- Possess strong working knowledge of APQP methodology and be able to create and modify documents.
- Experience performing effective root cause analysis and determining corrective and preventive actions.
- Experience and understanding with construction trades and processes as well as basic blueprint reading skills.
- Possess and utilize a seasoned knowledge of the effects which manufacturing processes have on materials and the controls available to maintain quality.
- Seasoned knowledge of customer quality requirements and reasons for establishing these requirements
- Working knowledge of continuous improvement tools and their proper application to problem solving.
- Prior customer or supplier interfacing experience.
- Experience with calibration systems and measurement tools.
- Able to work well in a team setting as well as independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization, customers and suppliers.
