Job Summary

The Loudoun County Department of Planning & Zoning seeks a qualified professional for the position of Planning Technician on the Land Use Review (LUR) team in the Department of Planning & Zoning.
Primary responsibilities include: * Creates files; inputs data into a land management database; coordinates application distribution; processes legislative land use applications; and uploads application information, Disclosure of Real Parties forms, and staff reports into a land management database. * Prepares public-facing deliverables, such as legal ads and written reports, for land use applications. * Assists and advises project managers with land use applications; assists with problem-solving. * Ensures correct records are maintained in a land management database. * Reviews land development applications and their associated plats; ensures that they are in conformance with the Zoning Ordinance and related regulations. * Conducts in-depth research necessary. Prepares vicinity and location maps for all legislative applications using Geographic Information System (GIS). * Maintains a general knowledge of current Planning Department projects, activities, caseload, and procedures to respond to information requests from customers; researches and responds to basic questions regarding land use, comprehensive planning, zoning, historic district, agricultural and forestall districts, and other programs; and refers customers to appropriate staff to address more complex or project-specific questions. * Works extensively with private citizens, developers, land use attorneys, and other County departments to resolve zoning related issues. * Ensures staff enters data and sets up files for land development applications; and monitors the Hotlines to ensure calls are returned with accurate information provided.

Minimum Qualifications
-
High school diploma and four (4) years of related work experience in a government setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Zoning, Historic Preservation, Business or Public Administration is preferred.

This position requires a criminal background, valid driver's license and driving record check. After a training period, this position is eligible for two days of telework per week.
