Position Summary
Performing tissue culture and develop constitutive and inducible gene expression or knockdown model systems using genetically designed vector systems.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities:1. Responsibilities will include reading scientific literature and learn new knowledge/technologies from all sources in order to advance research projects.2. Propose hypotheses and design, conduct, and troubleshoot hypothesis-testing experiments.3. Mentoring of research technicians and undergraduate students.4. Maintain detailed and understandable lab notebooks and documentation.5. Analyze and interpret results of the experiments, and troubleshoot.6. Discuss and present research findings with lab members and the principal investigator.7. Performing tissue culture and develop constitutive and inducible gene expression or knockdown model systems using genetically designed vector systems.8. Performing molecular biology techniques and cell and protein based assays9. Use computational approaches to analyze complex data sets, including next generation sequencing data sets, and/or effectively collaborate with computational biologists.10. Prepare figures, abstracts, posters and progress reports, write original manuscripts and review articles, and present at scientific conferences; and assistance with grant writing.11. Seek funding from possible federal and private foundation organizations.12. Work collaboratively with supervisor and other project team members.Research directions:1. Taking pharmacological and genetic approaches to uncover the principle resistance mechanisms governed by FOXM1 in different drug resistance cancers.2. Investigating pharmacokinetic properties and efficacy of the novel FOXM1 inhibitor STL001.3. Exploring the translational potential of combination therapies targeting FOXM1 activity in AML and a variety of solid cancer driven by FOXM1.Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
The Department of Medicine, GI Division at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking Visiting Research Specialist, rank is commensurate with experience.
Work with principal investigator to plan and execute complex research in large-scale collaborative research projects in cancer oncology. Prepare manuscripts/chapters for peer review journals or books, must regularly publish research findings in scientific peer-reviewed journals, and provide reports to extramural agencies/sponsors.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Contribute to the development of an impactful research program in cancer research. Direct a productive research laboratory. Manage interdisciplinary research projects at the intersection of immunology and metabolism in Gi cancers. Establish, maintain, and direct a biobank of human samples from patients with colon cancer and at high risk for developing colon cancer. Teach, train, and mentor students, research staff in both their research and career development. Write grant proposals to obtain extramural funding to sustain the research program. Publish research results in high-quality research articles in leading scientific journals. Present research results at academic conferences nationally. Create and maintain collaboration with scientists at this university and other institutions to advance the research program. Engage in scholarly activities, including peer-review of scientific articles and membership of editorial board. Meet all compliance and reporting requirements. Work collegially with staff, students, trainees in the Department, Division, and the University. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in science or related field required. Master's degree in science preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years related research experience.
- Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.
- Proficient in specific lab research techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Biology or related disciplines with more than 4 years of post-graduate research experience, preferably in an academic setting. Strong record of research productivity with multiple first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals. Experience in translational research, preferably in the cancer biology field. Expertise in molecular biology, proteomics, cell biology, and immunology techniques, and data analysis. Experience in managing a research team. Experience in training and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and research staff, Experience in peer-review of scientific articles, and editorial tasks.
