Job Details

We're searching for a faculty member to join Jefferson's growing Cytology program on our vibrant center city campus. The successful candidate for this position will provide lecture and laboratory instruction to Cytology students working under the supervision of the Program Director.

Responsibilities include:

University and Community:

Serve as liaison between the Cytology Program and Department clinical affiliate sites

Interpret trends in laboratory technology, laboratory service delivery, and laboratory education and training to the Program Director, Medical Director and Chairman of the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences and Biotechnology (MLSB).

Represent the Department, College, and Program to community, academic and professional societies and organizations.

Faculty Development, Scholarship and Continuing Education:

Actively pursue, promote, facilitate and encourage the academic development activities, programs and scholarly endeavors by faculty and students.

Participate in scholarly activities as a representative of the Department, College, University and Jefferson Health System.

Initiate and maintain relationships with present and potential partners and sponsors of departmental, programmatic and continuing and clinical education activities.

Administration and Faculty Governance:

Collaborate with the offices of Admissions and Marketing for outreach and enrollment activities for the recruitment and retention of prospective students

Cooperate with the offices of Admissions and Student Affairs to coordinate, objectively assess and document the enrollment process of students as well as their retention and progression in agreement with University and Department-wide policies.

Maintain appropriate documentation for clinical affiliation agreements and monitor clinical instructors' qualifications and clinical site review to ensure compliance with program accreditation requirements.

Participate in the recruitment process of Faculty members and staff for the Program, in accordance with CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in Cytology

Participate in the Program Advisory Committee and other committees as appropriate

Education and Curricular Administrative Responsibilities:

Assist in graduate and undergraduate curriculum design, development, revision, implementation and evaluation.

Prepare course syllabi and manual(s), lesson plans, handbooks, visual and technical aids, study sets and/or case studies, pertinent instructional materials and evaluation instruments that are relevant for the discipline area and based on contemporary theory, practice and technology, including computer-assisted instruction and/or web-based learning platforms, as appropriate. Course preparation responsibilities include ensuring that reference copies of all instructional materials are centrally maintained and protected.

Direct lectures and laboratory sessions in the area of expertise at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and participate in MLSB core curriculum courses, as appropriate and necessary. Collaborate as necessary with clinical faculty for practical experience phases of training. Observe, evaluate and record performance of students and provide supplemental and remedial training as required.

Conduct student evaluation program(s), including pre- and post-matriculation student advising, and recommendations for academic or clinical disciplinary actions, as necessary.

Job Description

Qualifications:

Board certification as a Cytotechnologist/Cytologist preferred; Masters' degree is preferable

Three years professional experience as cytotechnologist/cytologist within the past five years

Competence in the area of diagnostic cytopathology and educational theory or practice. One year or more teaching/clinical education experience.
