Purpose: The Sr. Director, Safety is a highly collaborative, multi-dimensional role which oversees the engagement and value delivery of the safety team and program across all of NRG. This position will have direct accountability for the day-to-day operational leadership of the safety function. Additionally, this position will be critical to the enhancement and evolution of the safety culture across the organization.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:- include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the operational head of the safety organization
  • Lead a team dedicated safety leaders and engineers, providing expectations, mentorship, professional development, and performance feedback
  • Foster an environment of collaboration, accountability, and innovation
  • Serve as a subject matter expert interpreting OSHA rules and regulations for management
  • Lead the transformation to redefine safety standards for the company and set a precedent for progressive safety operations
  • Build a comprehensive safety roadmap in collaboration with internal customers, stakeholders, and leadership
  • Champion a safety-first culture and drive continuous improvement across the organization
  • Support and emphasize the importance of safety and health programs and promote regulatory compliance
  • Assist the corporate organizations in fostering employee involvement and understanding of safety program objectives
  • Influence a positive safety culture that proactively identifies and reduces risk and reinforces safety accountability for all employees
  • Manage the development and communication of safety notifications and bulletins
  • Identify and develop company-wide corrective actions to ensure that safety incidents are not repeated, ensure corrective actions institutionalize improvements.
  • Maintain company safety statistics and related reports
  • Initiate, assist in, and/or review incident investigations and safety inspections
  • Enhance the current suite of safety technology and systems to further engage stakeholders and reduce risk.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, or other related field
  • 15+ years' progressive experience in health and safety engineering and management, preferably in complex technical environments such as heavy industry, power, or advanced R&D

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree, Engineering or Occupational Safety
  • Previous experience in leading enterprise wide safety organizations

  • Working knowledge of safety and health regulations and best practices
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to influence positive change across the enterprise
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to effectivelycommunicate (verbal and written) across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to read, write and understand English
  • Effectively and efficiently manage challenging workload independently with support from others

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate in multiple work environments such as power generation plants, warehouses, office settings, etc.
  • Frequent travel should be expected
