The Direct Support Professional for
IDD position is located at the Carolina Living and Learning Center (
CLLC), just north of Pittsboro and next door to Chatham Park, where a variety of new amenities are now available (e.g., Lowe's Foods, People's Coffee, Greek Kouzina, the Refuel station). We're at the intersection of peaceful country living and busy modern life, where we can take advantage of both lifestyles. On our 79 acres, we serve 15 autistic adults with higher support needs. They live in two homes on our beautiful farm, where we also have a barn, a potting shed, and a greenhouse to provide plenty of year-round activities. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to serve this unique, vulnerable population, while collaborating with our dedicated and compassionate staff. Position Summary |
INTERNAL ONLY: Internal Posting for Current UNC-Chapel Hill Permanent Employees, Time-Limited Employees, Temporary Employees (Directly Hired by UNC-Chapel Hill - Not Employed by a Third-Party Staffing Agency), University Temporary Services (UTS) Employees (Employed by UNC-Chapel Hill), and Layoff Priority Candidates of UNC-Chapel Hill.
This position will spend 50% of their time in direct care, providing active treatment to adults with autism across a variety of skill areas (e.g., self-help, communication, social and leisure skills, vocational skills, and positive behavior support) in order to achieve the adults' maximum well-being and independence. This position will also have leadership responsibilities among the direct care team. They will help to train new staff members, address site-specific problems as they arise during the shift, and plan the evening and weekend activities for the residential program. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Understanding of Autism in Adults
- Knowledge of TEACCH methodologies such as structured teaching strongly preferred
- Experience with person-centered planning and implementation of positive behavior support plans
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
