Basic Functions


Under the direction of the Director, provide care, supervision and learning activities with children enrolled at the Early Learning Center; plan and implement a variety of educational activities to meet the needs and interests of preschool children; provide appropriate modeling and verbal feedback to all ECE students in a lab center environment.

Representative Duties


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Provide care, supervision and learning activities to preschool children enrolled at the Early Learning Center; develop and implement lesson plans; respond to a child's needs and problems in a patient, caring and sensitive manner.

Planning and implementing a variety of educational activities, long term and weekly, to meet the needs and interests of preschool children and facilitate and enhance social, physical, emotional, creative, language, and cognitive growth.

Provide appropriate modeling and verbal feedback to all ECE students in a lab center environment; observe and monitor progress of all ECE students.

Assist children by answering questions, providing appropriate examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance; monitor, assess and report progress of children's performance and behavior; monitor, assess and adjust activities in response to children's needs.

Observe and re-direct behavior of preschool children according to approved procedures; monitor children during outdoor activities; resolve child guidance problems in a proper and timely manner.

Communicate with students, families, personnel and outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns.

Maintain a clean, safe, attractive and organized learning environment; assure the health and safety of children by following health and safety practices and procedures; clean, set up, and set out toys and instructional materials.

Participate in a variety of other assigned activities such as preparing meals, answering telephones, performing laundry duties and setting up equipment for outdoor activities.

Attend and participate in various meetings, conferences and in-services as assigned.

Conduct a parent conference with each family twice per year

OTHER DUTIES:

Perform related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience


Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by a minimum of 24 core units in Early Childhood Education, 16 units of General Education and 175 days of teaching young children in a licensed setting.

Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic background of the student, community, and employee population.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • B.A. in child development, Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
  • 6 units of infant/toddler
  • At least 2 years working in a lab school setting.
  • Bilingual/Spanish

WORKING HOURS:
Monday-Friday: 7:45 am- 4:45pm / Hour lunch break
10 months per year, plus fringe benefits; 6 month probation period. All work schedules and work assignments are subject to change based on the needs of the College.

SALARY INFORMATION:
The current salary schedule range for the Teacher- Preschool position is Salary Table 29 Range 28, $52,608 - 59,531. Nine step salary range continues to a maximum of $64,111. Initial placement based on experience with annual advancement to the next higher step.

General principles, techniques, theories and practices of early childhood education and child development including proper care and discipline.

Basic subjects taught in schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading.

Oversee and assist children with classroom projects and assignments.

Learn, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Learn policies and objectives of assigned Program and activities.

Monitor, observe and report child behavior and progress according to approved policies and procedures.

Monitor, assess and adjust activities in response to children's needs.

Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Observe health and safety regulations.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

Potential for exposure to children's bodily fluids.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (Upon Offer of Employment):
