Hunger Solutions Institute (
HSI) in the College of Human Sciences seeks an
Outreach Programs Administrator to coordinate program operations and support strategic development of local and regional food systems serving Alabama and the southeast.
About HSI:
HSI was established by the College of Human Sciences and the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station at Auburn University in February 2012. A foundational principle of
HSI is that hunger is a solvable problem, but only when the relevant knowledge from all academic disciplines is combined with the abilities and strengths of all sectors.

Essential Functions |
Coordinate day to day operations as primary contact of HSI's Hunger and Food Systems efforts, including developing and coordinating activities to accomplish work plan(s); answering daily emails from stakeholders, partners and interested partners; meeting with
HSI Managing Director and other
HSI Outreach Programs Administrators; collaborating and meeting with partners, interested partners, funders, etc.; maintaining accurate and up-to-date records; participating in appropriate professional societies and groups; attending virtual and/or in-person local, state, regional, and national events; leading research group and advisory board in conjunction with
HSI Managing Director.
Assist with strategic development of local and regional food systems serving Alabama and the southeast, including but not limited to:
- Developing and maintaining partnerships with businesses and enterprises within the Alabama and southeast value chain, integral partners to fill gaps in local and regional food systems, technical assistance providers who can support improved food systems;
- Supporting grant application, grant making, and grant monitoring for businesses, enterprises, and others who support strategic development of local and regional food systems serving Alabama and the southeast; and
- Supporting business plan development of businesses and enterprises who support strategic development of local and regional food systems.
- Supervise partners for compliance with funders/grant guidelines, identify areas of improvement, and provide training and technical assistance during conferences, site visits and virtually.
- Monitor overall budget spending and support management of sub-awards, reimbursements, and/or invoice payments to partners and vendors using appropriate Auburn University systems.
- Collaborate with partners and funders to design, implement, analyze, and report program information, including evaluation.
- Communicate design and promotion needs to communications/marketing specialist and approve promotional materials, timelines, and vendor quotes.
- Assist Managing Director in identifying potential funding opportunities and drafting application narratives to support program expansion.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications |
Level II: Master's degree - No specific discipline, plus 2 years experience in the design, implementation, delivery and management of educational programs/services.
Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
Level III: Master's degree - No specific discipline, plus 4 years experience in the design, implementation, delivery and management of educational programs/services. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
Substitutions allowed for Experience: When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience. |
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Minimum Skills and Abilities |
Professional and/or academic background in food systems, value chain and/or business; knowledge of public and private funding available for local and regional food systems enhancements; basic understanding of program coordination within a partnership and institution of higher education. |
Minimum Technology Skills |
Knowledge of desktop computer operations and Microsoft Office. |
Minimum License and Certifications |
Valid Driver's License and personal vehicle for travel between sites; ability to complete
CITI training within 60 days of hire. |
