Overview / Job Summary:

The Automation Training instructor will be responsible for delivering comprehensive training programs in automation technologies. This role involves designing curriculum that addresses the needs of the industry and equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in automation roles. The position requires a strong understanding of current automation systems, technologies, and trends in the workforce.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will vary, but are not limited to:

  • Build relationships with industry partners, support organizations, OEMs, and consultants to create automation training for a variety of delivery methods.
  • Coordinate with WSU Tech leadership, staff, and faculty in areas of curriculum development that can be utilized for training, applied learning, and curriculum development in automation.
  • Serve as the liaison for partnerships with industry in the areas of emerging technologies in automation and advanced manufacturing.
  • Produce and disseminate curriculum materials and training equipment targeted to industry partners.
  • Oversee delivery of automation training for industry partners to include virtual or in-person travel to training sites.
  • Plan and execute manufacturing emerging technology trends specific to industry needs for the focused development and delivery of automation training and/or technician programming.
  • Engages with the appropriate WSU Tech staff members and/or additional resources to support expanded industry outreach.
  • Represent WSU Tech in events.
  • Be knowledgeable about all aspects of the internal finance process and work with finance office for budgetary
  • Be knowledgeable about careers and changes in automation and advanced manufacturing sectors.
  • Be willing to learn the knowledge, skills, and expertise in additional areas of automation.
  • Remain competent and current through self-direct professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development, and training as required.
  • Be creative in the implementation of programs and marketing tools to focus on manufacturing as an educational and career path for underrepresented groups or individuals.
  • Position requires travel up to 25% of the time, at during the initial set up phase of the project.
  • Position requires the confidential handling of proprietary and/or intellectual property information. Candidates must adhere to strict confidentiality protocols and demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding sensitive data.
Requirements

Education:

  • Associate Degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience working in highly automated manufacturing environments or systems. Experience developing and/or delivering automation training in a corporate environment, strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of automation processes in at least two of these areas: robotics, automated assembly, PLC programming, I/O Networking and IOT, vision or other sensor systems, machine learning, troubleshooting, and automation in quality. Preferable extensive knowledge in at least one area listed here.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Ability to be project/task oriented and work independently with little supervision.
  • High level of communication skills required (oral and written)
  • Ability to maintain calm and positive demeanor in stressful or tense situations
  • Must be able to work autonomously, exercising good judgement & discretion.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle a high-pressure environment with timeline pressures.
  • Must be able to work a varied work schedule as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize with strong organization skills.
