Job Summary

South Mountain Community College is currently hiring a full-time Behavioral Health Science residential faculty to start in Fall of 2025.

The Behavioral Health Science Faculty member will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, student-centered classroom and clinical workforce instruction! This position is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses, developing curriculum, advising students, and contributing to departmental and institutional service. This role involves working with BHS students from diverse backgrounds, emphasizing behavioral science concepts and theories across the life span. The instructor will employ a variety of teaching methods-traditional, nontraditional, and innovative-including the integration of technology. They will also demonstrate strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills while teaching within an integrated curriculum, and show a clear commitment to student academic success. Participates in person, online, and hybrid course facilitation and alternative clinical activities. The position may have varying days, including some evenings and weekends. New Faculty will receive mentorship opportunities within the department and at the college level.

Essential Functions

* Instructs students in a classroom setting, online or hybrid modalities, accelerated and alternative schedules and formats; uses learner-centered strategies to engage students and promote student success; demonstrates innovation in teaching and the scholarship of learning by focusing on student retention and achievement; incorporates appropriate instructional technology.

* Develops instructional materials and curriculum, written syllabi/course outlines, and course materials; designs courses and creates learning activities; assesses and evaluates knowledge of course competencies.

* Maintains regular office hours to assist, tutor, and advise students to promote learning, civic engagement, and personal development; works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects; develops and cultivates relationships within the college community to promote student success.

* Participates in college and district activities including division meetings, workshops, committee assignments, and projects; contributes to the academic life and mission of the college.

* Engages with students, staff, and the community; maintains a team approach in collaborating with faculty, staff, and students.

* Remains current with trends and developments in the field through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and/or workshops; develops and enhances knowledge of teaching Behavioral Health Science to college students.

* Participates in division and college assessment and program review processes; uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning.

* Provide workforce readiness instruction as part of Continuing Education Units (CEU) required for licensure renewal and to remain in good standing as a workforce trainer.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree or higher in behavioral health, or related field

An active associate or independent license with AzBBHE or AzBPE

Desired Qualifications

A. Three or more years of experience as an BHP providing direct client/patient care in a clinical setting

B. Two or more years of didactic teaching experience educating a diverse population

C. Three or more years of experience with Curriculum development

D. One or more years experience utilizing Relias

E. One or more years experience utilizing Canvas or related LMS system

Special Working Conditions

* May be required to work evenings and weekends

* May be required to instruct at multiple sites and/or teach days, evenings or weekends

* May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen

* Position is scheduled to start August 15, 2025
