Full-time, 40 hours/week Primarily 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, occasional evening and weekends Onsite Summary: The Manager Chaplaincy Services is responsible for leading and delivering high- quality spiritual care to patients, families, and staff at Akron Children's Hospital, ensuring services are responsive, inclusive, and aligned with the hospital's mission and values. The Manager provides direct spiritual care, overseas the chaplaincy team, and helps to integrate spiritual care into the overall health care experience. This leader will play a key role in the development of staff support programs, interfaith initiatives, and family-centered care practices. Responsibilities: 1. Champion the department and serve as the institution's chaplain, modeling empathy and compassion. 2. Supervise and support chaplaincy staff, students, and volunteers, providing coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations. 3. Ensure availability and flexibility, including 24/7 backup duties and disaster event management. 4. Offer culturally competent spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff of varying faith traditions or no faith. 5. Develop, lead, or facilitate inter-faith prayer and worship opportunities, memorial services, and rituals. 6. Develop and oversee staff support initiatives that enhance caregiver resilience, including debriefings, rituals of renewal, and individual pastoral care. 7. Serve as a resource for crisis intervention and employee support in times of loss or organizational stress. 8. Initiate and support spiritual care programming for seasonal events, hospital milestones, bereavement rituals, and special observances. 9. Lead the Schwartz Center Program and facilitate Schwartz Center Rounds. 10. Prepare and distribute monthly on-call schedules for Akron and Mahoning Valley Campus. 11. Maintain the Chaplaincy Office, Spiritual Care Center, and Meditation Room; oversee inventory of supplies, literature, and resources. 12. Monitor and ensure compliance standards from accreditation bodies (e.g., Joint Commission, ACPE, APC). 13. Oversee the department budget and control expenditures; liaise with the Foundation for donor opportunities. Other information: Technical Expertise
Education and Experience 1. Education: Master of Divinity degree or related field required. Four units of clinical pastoral education required, with at least two units in a pediatric setting preferred. 2. Certification: Certification from the Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, National Association of Jewish Chaplains, or other national chaplaincy certifying body required. 3. Years of relevant experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a hospital setting; pediatric hospital experience strongly preferred. 4. Years of supervisory experience: Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a healthcare or ministry setting required. Additional Information 1.
