GENERAL FUNCTION: Leads a team of personnel in the safe and efficient testing of all vessel equipment and systems, up to and including sea trials, in compliance with customer requirements and company policy. Reports directly to the Test and Trials Manager.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.

  • Account for and document all subordinates' time
  • Control and update equipment and consumable inventories
  • Provide feedback on test procedures
  • Troubleshoot, commission, and operate marine diesel power/gas turbine plants and all related auxiliary equipment.
  • Line up all systems for operation, set controls, interpret temperature, pressure, and flow readings.
  • Set up and operate automatic controls, air conditioning, refrigeration plants, and various other auxiliary equipment common to naval vessels.
  • Conduct flushing, commissioning, operational and demonstration test procedures and provide feedback for revisions.
  • Lock out equipment in accordance with company's Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) policies.
  • Maintain inventory and control of company testing equipment.
  • Calibrate and install shipboard instrumentation (pressure and temperature gauges, switches, etc).
  • Conduct underway testing during sea trials. stand watches, maintaining control of assigned space/equipment and communicating effectively with other stations.
  • Must be able to work in confined/enclosed spaces.
  • Must be able to work/climb in elevations greater than 5'.
  • Must be able to wear/work a respirator when applicable.
  • Must follow all Company policies and procedures, including those relative to employee safety, environmental policy, and the principles of our quality system.
  • Other duties assigned or requested by Management.
  • Works overtime as required.
  • Reports to work daily and on time.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of the shipbuilding process, industry standards, and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Competent in various software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Navis, etc.)
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision & the ability to interface effectively with customers, management, and employees across all areas.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues with mechanical systems, equipment, or test setups.
Experienced in using testing equipment in ensuring mechanical systems and components are properly calibrated, maintained and in good working order.

DESIRABLE EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

Minimum of 4 years of Propulsion, Auxiliary, Fuel, or Damage Control Experience preferred. Supervisory experience.
