Overview

Coordinate audience services and front-of-house logistics for performances at the Eisner Center for the Performing Arts. Lead a team of student employees in creating a positive and safe patron experience. Collaborate with the backstage operations team on trainings and procedures, and supervise student technicians during small-scale performances. Document performances through reports and ensure regular communication with the box office and production team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Serve as House Manager for most Eisner Center concerts and productions, which occur primarily on evenings and weekends.
  • Create welcoming interactions for campus and greater community audiences, resolve ticketing and seating concerns, and ensure proper execution of front of house policies for performances.
  • Recruit, train and supervise a student staff of ushers, ticketing assistants, and house managers.
  • Establish a path for student leadership with increasing levels of responsibility for managing events.
  • Develop and implement student trainings in collaboration with the production manager, including topics such as emergency procedures, ADA compliance, and customer service.
  • Manage student scheduling and budget student hours based on venue, and complexity of event.
  • Communicate regularly with the box office about special patron needs for seating and event specifics.
  • Complete and share house manager reports.
  • Ensure communication of performance details to student managers.
  • Work in partnership with the stage manager during all live performances.
  • Use the Ludus ticketing software to reserve tickets for patrons at performances.
  • Use Ludus as guide for reserved seating at performances and to ensure accurate audience attendance.
  • Provide basic technical support and trouble-shooting for small scale events.
  • Cross-train in backstage operations and provide on-site supervision and guidance for student technical crews in time sensitive, live-show conditions.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General supervision is received fromthe Managing Director, with collaboration from the Program Coordinator and Production Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May provide functional supervision to student employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Knowledge of and experience working in a live event setting

Flexibility of schedule and primary availability on evenings and on weekends.

Demonstrated ability to provide engaging customer service.

The ability to respond quickly to unrehearsed situations in live performances.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred

Experience working cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students in a performing arts context.

Experience with the mentorship, training, and supervision of students

Physical requirements

Occasional moving of various items up to 30 pounds

Able to work in performance areas with limited lighting
