About the Job

Hours:
10 to 20 hours per week, afternoons and evenings, Monday through Saturday

This temp/casual position is at the Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center (UROC) located in North Minneapolis at the historic intersection of Penn and Plymouth Avenues. UROC links the University of Minnesota in vital public partnership with urban communities to advance learning, improve quality of life, and discover breakthrough solutions to critical problems. Our work focuses in three community identified areas: Health and Wellness, Education and Life Long Learning, and Economic and Community Development.

Essential Functions

Staff Front Desk (60%)
* Answer UROC phone in a timely manner
* Take accurate messages
* Refer callers and visitors to proper sources
* Provide excellent customer service to all guests
* Ability to foster a positive and welcoming environment

Provide Project Support (10%)
* Provide logistical support to emerging UROC projects
* Assist with reviewing literature and materials for emerging projects
* Assist with logistics for projects: creating manuals, reminder phone calls, organizing files, etc.
Non-Essential Functions

Provide Support for Events (30%)
* Participate in UROC events, including event set-up and tear-down

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Familiarity with computers
* Proven customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications
* Familiarity with North Minneapolis and experience working in an urban office
* Dependable transportation to UROC
* Ability to work evenings and occasional Saturdays

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.25; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
