Overview

Responsible for coordinating all activities related to crane operation on a jobsite. Completing work ahead of schedule, within budget and within specifications with varying degree of responsibility and authority.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for daily coordination of Crane Foreman, Crane Operators, crane walks, and crane builds on assigned project
  • Responsible for ensuring all crane activities are being completed in a safe manner
  • Train and instruct crane operators in safe work practices for assigned tasks
  • Responsible to develop, train and mentor crane operators, supervising crews up to 20
  • Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
  • Complete all required project reports and maintain appropriate documentation on all facets of the project
  • Ensure that all operators are certified and maintain all equipment on the project
  • Promote culture of quality and safety
  • Promote and communicate the Company policies and procedures specific to cranes
  • Monitor Crane Operator and Crane Foreman job performance and make personnel recommendations
  • Participate and/or lead problem solving and continuous improvement efforts including cost saving/avoidance opportunities
  • Develop and monitor key metrics and develop operational strategies for profitability
  • Assist in developing and writing best practices and standard tools to use to continuously improve crane operations
  • Communicate daily status updates with Field Crane Manager
  • Prepare accurate two-week crane look-ahead with Field Crane Manager
  • Communicate with the company lift engineers for crane selection and lift planning
  • Permission from third party owned cranes without an owner representative present
  • Manage a combination of Crane Foreman, Crane Operators, Crane Support Riggers/laborers
  • Supervise overall direction, coordination, performance and evaluation of crane operation employees
  • Directly supervise, coordinate and delegate daily activities of Crane Operators, Crane Support Riggers/laborers
  • Communicate effectively to employees in oral and written form
  • Responsible for being the "competent-qualified supervisor" that meets the requirement of A/D Director referenced in OSHA standard 1926.14
  • Invest time and effort in enhancing apprentices' skills and knowledge - champion the process
  • Provide positive environment to support coaching and mentoring of apprentices
  • Commit to accurate classification to ensure PWA (Prevailing Wage & Apprenticeship) compliance when applicable
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience/knowledge or combination of experience and education in a supervisory level
  • Nationally accredited certification for operating, rigging, and signalperson i.e. NCCCO, NCCER or OECP
  • Formal AD and lift director training

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to the the company's Zero Injury principles
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Compute rate, ratio and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
